Title: lea davidoff
Post by: emilyandrosiesmum on Wednesday 25 November 09 18:01 GMT (UK)
I have a photo, left to me by my mother, of a Jewish lady called Lea Davidoff.  Lea was a refugee from wartime Europe who stayed with my mother's parents in Sandwich, Kent.  The photo is signed on the back by Lea and dated 1940.  My mum had fond memories of her and said she was a lovely person.
Does anyone know how i can find out more about Lea?

I'll run this past an extremely nice Jewish chap I know. He's a WW2 Vet' and knows his way around. He might be able to suggest one of the Jewish recording bodies. Can't promise anything. But I'll ask  :)

I recognise how slim a hope there is. But figured that if anyone might have a clue where to start, you may be the man to be asking

Steve.

 Ron just replied:

Scan the photo and send it to me at (His personal email addy) together with any other info you may have. I would also need your OK to pass the snap on to another source such as the Jewish Chronicle.

Best regards

Be an absolute blast if anything could come of this!

Hi,
Hopefully you will get a perfect result from the enquiry passed on by Steve G.

It is very possible that Lea may have been a child involved in this, extracted from Wikepedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kindertransport

Kindertransport (also Refugee Children Movement or "RCM'") is the name given to the rescue mission that took place nine months prior to the outbreak of World War II. The United Kingdom took in nearly 10,000 predominantly Jewish children from Nazi Germany, and the occupied territories of Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland and the Free City of Danzig. The children were placed in British foster homes, hostels, and farms.

There was also the series of trains for children organised by a private individual, the late Nicholas Winton, aka the Schindler of Britain, who was made a Sir years later after his exploits had been made public.  http://www.powerofgood.net/story.php A fascinating, wonderful story!
Good luck,
Dickiesam
