Title: Lost Family in Yorkshire
Post by: irene33 on Wednesday 25 November 09 17:21 GMT (UK)
Hello Everyone

I am trying to find decendents of my Grandmothers siblings.  Information about her father John Edward Jones has been like a brickwall (he was born about 1872).  Trying trace him back has been a nightmare.  So I am trying another route.  I do know some of Barbara's siblings lived in Yorkshire, Huddersfield area and Wakefield.

I live in Canada and I would like to get in touch with them or maybe someone who has them on their tree, this may help with my brickwall
My Grandmother was Barbara Jones born 1895 in Easington, Durham.  Her siblings are:
John Jones - 1898
William - 1900
Katherine - 1902  (she died early but had a daughter call Frances )
Elizabeth - 1908
Mark - 1909 (married Elizabeth Nicholson in Easington)
Frances - 1912 (died a couple of years ago in Huddersfield)
Nicholas - 1918 (he died about 5 years ago in Wakefield I think)

If anyone can help I would appreciate it OR guide me to a another site that can help.
Thanks...Irene33  ???

Let me just touch base where I got to with the parents of Barbara Jones

Her mother is Elizabeth Maddison BUT there is no marriage listed.  The only marriage listed for John Edward Jones is with Elizabeth Morrison.  As I have 7 children to prove they "married" and as I have been down this road before it could be a waste of time for all of us.

John Edward Jones is from Debighshire, Wales (according to census reports) but I am pretty sure his father's name was John.

As there are so many Jones around I thought I would try another route, because all the research I and others have done before haven't got us any further.  I do know that John Edward Jones left Easington after his wife died and he died in Lancashire.  But I don't know when or where.

I do know from information from my family that Barbara Jones siblings most of them lived in Easington until about mid 1930s.  I do know from talking to my dad that some lived in Huddersfield.   I actually met Francis, Elizabeth (Lizzie) when I lived in England as a child.
Any ideas anyone - I have to go...its 11:48am in Vancouver and work beckons me...Thanks

I forgot to say about the Maddison side.  This is correct

Quote
Address:   Water Street, Thornley
County:   Durham

MADDISON, Mark   Head   1849   Fireman In Coal Mine Co Durham Pittington
MADDISON, Mary   Wife   1856      Co Durham Pittington
MADDISON, Elizabeth                   1875        ThornbyCo Durham
MADDISON, Sarah   Daughter                   1877   ThornbyCo Durham
MADDISON, Bartholomew   Son   1878    ThornbyCoDurham
MADDISON, Thos   Son                   1879    ThornbyCo Durham
MADDISON, Francis Ann   Daughter   1889   ThornbyCo Durham
MADDISON, Gowan R   Son   1890   ThornbyCo Durham

I dont' have the information in front of me but I believe Sarah married an Etherington, Sarah married a Nicholson.
This side of the family I have all the information it is the Jones side that is the problem.

See Ya ::)

I think the John Edward Jones/Elizabeth Morrison marriage may be the correct one. Maddison could easily be mistaken for morrison ("DD" could easily be mistaken for "RR")

The best way to resolve that would be to purchase the marriage cert - =and specifiy Elizabeth's father's forename

On which census does it state John Edward was b Denbighshire????

At least we were on the right track Pughy - Strange about the marriage cert though. According to 1911 census they had been married 17 years which means 1894 but I can see nothing will keep looking - if we can find that then Irene can send for cert to confirm fathers name

Found one on the 1881 census parents Edward and Mineva living in Shropshire

Thats the only one I can find which uses a reference to Churk(Chirk on 1881)except the year of birth is listed as 1872

Unless he had listed John without using the E and then it could take a while.

I thought reseaching Clark(e) in London was hard enough searching Jones in Wales certainly beats that.

Makes it more interesting though

Genuki
Chirk- a parish in the union of Oswestry, hundred of Chirk, county  of Denbigh
Chirk Green Denbigh -United methodist Free Church (English language)

Reg district Oswestry

I don't think there is another John Edward Jones of correct y.o.b. from Chirk

Which seems strange because Oswetry comes under Shropshire or was it Wales back then

I find that with alot of them
With my Clark side it seemed they often put down that they were born where they live perhaps the enumirator didnt make it clear or they didn't fully understand the question On one of mine a mother has even put down not known for where born for her own children - How does that work

I do have a copy of the marriage certificate them;

John Edward Jones - Father John Jones
Elizabeth Morrison.  - Father Mark Morrison

This cert. was also shows the Morrison name clearly.  I did contact Durham office and someone checked the banns and said Morrison was the name used all 3 times.  I know...a wall for every turn we make.  One thing of note, I couldn't find any Mark Morrison on census reports with a daughter Elizabeth.

As for the Edward Jones & Minerva, let me look at it again.  There is something I remember about this.

irene33 :-*

On the information I think the father's name was the only thing that stumped me and my dad said he thought his grandfather's mother was called Katherine.   I do have a cert. for another John Jones but I could never find the parents

Thanks for all your hard work everyone.

I am still not sure about Edward and Minerva.  It looks very probable.

Thanks
