Post by: Penninah on Tuesday 24 November 09 20:41 GMT (UK)
HELP!

I have a Eunice P M Doling born London 1912. I have a marriage in 1940 to an Arthur E Binns in Gosport.... I can't seem to trace her any further forward! Ideas please?

Could emigration be a possibility?

Do you know Arthur's occupation?   If he was in the forces he could have been posted abroad and Eunice went with him after the end of WW2.

I don't know Arthurs Occupation. But as they married during the war in Gosport my first thought are he was in the army, the only births for Arthur Binns I can find are northern and she was born London so it seems more than likely they married there due to army commitments. I have searched both ancestry and findmypast for signs of them going abroad but have so far drawn a blank. I can't find any children's births in this country at least.  ???

Gosport could mean he was in the Navy;  have you checked WW2 deaths on the CWGC site?

I think WW2 is the likely answer to them being there, its just proving it.  :-\

Hi,

Have you checked the telephone directories available on Ancestry?   A long shot but you never know!

There are too many Arthur Binns listed and without knowing where they lived in the U.K after the war its pointless.  :-\

Hi,

I traced the Eunice P Doling marriage forwards, that couple ended up in Nottingham and I know that she wasn't mine. As for the other I can only find that one binns/Doling marriage so I guess she was someone else too.
I have nowhere left to look for my Eunice, unless as her mother was prone to do, she changed her name?

Thanks for your help
