Hello Wendy
Thank you for your information. This is very much appreciated.
I have very little to work with and so far your information on Edwin, the son of William and Elizabeth is the most promising. The Edwin Bennett I am researching immigrated to NZ in Oct. 1858, at age 22yrs. This indicating he was born about 1836.
The only NZ documents that mention age or DOB are his death and burial records which both have the same age; 64Y (death date; 02/03/1902). This indicating he was born around the 1838 period. which ties in with the 1841 census as being son of William & Elizabeth.
There appears to be no other record that states his age or DOB.
I am intrigued with the 1841 census surname spelling of “Berrett” for William 20 Louisa 11 and Dinah 8
Is this the same in 1851 and after?
Thanks again
Donald

Hi Donald,
I think I have found Edwin for you. On both the 1841 and 1851 the surname 'Bennett' has been transcribed incorrectly for the family who were indeed in North Kilworth. Looking at the actual returns confirms this although it's possible to see how the errors were made.
1841 Census Lutterworth Road, North Kilworth.

Well done Mike...
From the IGI:
George Bennett and Martha Weston married 28 November 1826 St Nicholas Leicester.
There is also a reference to a George Bennett being buried at North Kilworth 19 December 1878. If Mike can confirm this at the R.O. I'll pop over to North Kilworth next weekend and see if there's a gravestone and take a photo.

There is also a reference to a George Bennett being buried at North Kilworth 19 December 1878.
I've just checked this with the BMD's and it appears that George Bennett died in June qtr 1872 aged 68 Registered at Lutterworth, Vol 7a page 4.
And it looks as if it was Martha Bennett who died in December qtr 1878 Registered at Rugby .
Sorry for the mix up...

What a great team you all are. Thank you so much for all your inputs into identifying Edwin and his family. It would certainly appear you are all on the correct trail of sorting and resolving Edwin’s family. You all seem to have excellent access to researching genealogy, making you a most reliable source of information. Is it possible your information also discloses information on his siblings?
Thank you all for your inputs.

As promised I went to find George and Martha Bennett's grave today in North Kilworth and I've been lucky.
Here's the image of their gravestone tucked behind a tree to the rear of the church amongst all of the other Bennetts who are buried there.
Donald, If you want the images of the other gravestones please PM me with your e-mail adress and I will send them to you.

Just for completeness here is a picture of North Kilworth church that I took today. George and Martha Bennett's grave is behind the yellowy tree, centre left. The dark grey gravestones in front of this tree are mostly Bennetts as well.

Absolutely fantastic is all I kept saying to myself when viewing the photos. As a team you are “tops”, particularly as what I have managed to unscramble from your inputs and of the little background I had to work on. All evidence shows this is the family I have been searching for, and to have these photos as well is a tremendous bonus. Not only to me, but to other researchers looking for the same information.
Hopefully some of them may add further information to this posting.
An extra thank you to Bryo for taking the time to visit and photograph the headstone and church.
Best wishes to the team and thank you all again.

Hiya, It's not going to help much with your research but Martha Bennett was my gt gt gt grandfather's next door neighbour in North Kilworth and was the informant on his (John Hammonds) death certificate on 30/12/1843.

It's taken me nearly 6 years to make the leap to RootsChat (serious family tree research/addiction started Feb 2004) but, having registered at last, I have landed on a very promising thread for my tree. I think that Mike from Leicester is almost certainly the person due an acknowledgment for setting me on my way with this part of the family, some time ago.
I reckon that Donald NZ, above, is someone whom I have contacted late last autumn - fruitfully. Although Edwin is not in my direct ancestral line, George and Martha are there as my Gx2-grandparents. I am delighted to see the beautiful photo, taken by Bryo, of the gravestone. I hope it is acceptable to him that I have downloaded the image (including his name as copyright holder in the filename). That also means that my ancestors were living next door to tigtig's.
George's PoB, according to the censuses, is Lutterworth, and his marriage record has Thomas & Susannah BENNETT as witnesses. Unfortunately, my nice theory that George was the son of a Thomas BENNETT / Susannah ROBINSON Lutterworth marriage 3 July 1804 (IGI M061021) seems to have been demolished, since the Bishop's Transcripts (transcribed here, on another thread) show that Thomas to have had the surname MOUNT, and not BENNETT, as in the IGI. I can see that I shall have to visit the RO at Wigston before too long.
Happy New Year to all.

Thank you.
I would hav sent you a PM, but that facility doesn't seem to be available here...
Or, rather, I hadn't spotted the correct link to do so, until just now!
