I am looking for information on Charles William Harlow born 1882, Burton on Trent. His parents listed on his death registration are John Woolley and Caroline Harlow. I have found John and Caroline on the 1881 census but not on the 1891 census. Can anyone help, please.

Hiya wmouse
I think this might be a contender for Caroline
202 Horn Road, Horniglow
William Loverock aged 68 head b Burton on Trent Farmer
Maria Loverock aged 64 wife b Horniglow
Annie Maria Loverock aged 22 daughter b Horniglow
Caroline Woolley aged 46 widow b Horniglow general servant
Source RG12/2206 Folio 77
I know the age isn't right but on the 1871 census she is listed as 27 and on the 1881 she is listed as 40. I cannot find any reference for John's death but as he isn't appearing anywhere else in the 1891 census it may be that the BMD reference just hasn't been transcribed yet

Thanks willow,
Willow,
This helps alot.
It may also explain the difference in the different surnames, if she left Charles William to be raised by her brother. Now I just have to find her brother.
I think she had a younger brother named George, but I am not sure.
My ggrandfather's name was John Clarence, which were supposed to be traditional family names on Charles William's side, if that helps at all.
Thanks again.

Hiya wmouse
Do you think this might be them in the 1891 census?
191 Stafford Street Burton upon Trent
John Harlow head aged 42 Bricklayer
Clara Harlow wife aged 31
John aged 8 son
Walter aged 6 son
Elizabeth aged 4 daughter
all born Burton upon Trent
Source RG12/2206 Folio 57
That is the only John aged around 8 listed for Stafford in the 1891 census. The nearest ones are aged 5 and 19. I have looked for a marriage certificate for John and Clara but there isn't one listed. I wonder if this is her brother?
I did look for a George but the two born in Horniglow are aged 44 and 13 - The 13 year old ones father is called George too

Hi willow
This John could be a brother. I will try and research it further on my end. Did you come across any Charles Harlow's in the 1891 census? From what information I have Caroline did have a brother named Charles who was christened at the same time as her in March 1846. Her parents names were George and Elizabeth Harlow, I do not know Elizabeth's maiden name. As I said Charles William is something of a mystery to us.
I appreciate the information you have given me.

Thanks Willow,
That means a lot to me. Now at least I know who Caroline's parents were.
As I said I really appreciate the time you are putting in finding this information for me.

Hi willow,
No I did not have that one.
By any chance did you come across Charles William Harlow as a child aged about 9 in the 1891 census? He was born Dec 4, 1882, so that would make him 8 or 9.
Thanks again for the help

The only Charles Harlow listed is aged 7
At 62 Horn Road North? Horniglow
George Harlow aged 36 b Horniglow Head occ Brewers Labourer
Miriam aged 31 b Tattenhill? wife
Charles aged 7 b Horniglow son
John aged 4 b Horniglow son
Source RG12/2206 Folio 71
I think this is the right one because checked George in the 1881 census and he is listed as living on his own aged 25. Maybe they had a problem remembering ages

Thanks willow,
That does look like it is the right one. We do know he emigrated to Canada between 1900 and 1904 as he got married in 1904 in Medicine Hat, Alberta to Alice Threasa Tozer.
I still have a lot of work ahead of me but you certainly have made it easier.
Thanks again

Hi Anne-Maree,
I have a Charles Harlow born 1846, who married Sarah, sorry I don't have her last name.
Charles had a younger brother named George, who was born 1856/7 in Horninglow, Staffordshire, he married Miriam born 1860, in Tatenhill, sometime between 1881 and 1891, as he was listed as single in the 1881 census.
Charles is the only one I have as having a Sarah as his wife.
I don't know if this helps, but let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Hi wmouse
Try the Canada national archives about what records in Canada, also emigration lists on rootsweb or genuki links, post 1920's there is a website called pier21.
Hope this helps
