Title: Legier
Post by: MarthaR on Monday 23 November 09 16:58 GMT (UK)
I have information that my great grandfather George Legier was born in Ireland - possibly Limerick.  He was born around 1814 and may have had a brother Adam.  George married Nancy Shroud (not sure of the spelling).  George ended up in the Altona, New York area where all his children were born - Anna, Soloman, Catherine, etc.  Any info on the Legier / Shroud families would be appreciated.

Martha,

There were just three Legier's in all of Ireland as shown in Griffith's Valuation for Limerick in 1851. Details are as follows....

Catherine Legier, Civil Parish of Kilcolman, Townland of Drominaclara.

Eliza Legier, Civil Parish of Iveruss, Townland of Beagh.

William Legier, Civil Parish of Iveruss, Townland of Beagh.

Hope this helps.

Believe George's wife was Nancy Shrowd - know she had a sister Bridget.  Can't find any records of Shrowd's from Limerick so not sure where she is from.
Also believe George had brother's Adam, John and possibly Jacob.  One of Jacob's sons ended up in Vermont.  George and John were in Clinton County NY.  Adam was originally in Altona, NY but appears that he moved to Minnesota.  Hope someone knows more info about these folks!!
