William Hornby was my 5x great grandfather born c1745 but we have no idea where he was born.
He married around 1768 to (haha) we don't know who. He had 10 children all born in Prescot Lancashire, not just the district of Prescot but in Prescot itself.
He died 12/02/1825 in Prescot, his children where,James 1769,who married a Mary but again dont know her maiden name, William 1774, John 1775, Arthur 1777, Elizabeth 1779, Arthur 1781, John 1783, Elizabeth 1785, Ann 1788, Martha 1791, they clearly lost alot of children.
I'm trying to find anything I can about William 1745, his parents where he came from, his marriage his wife's death, her name, and also the wife of James born 1769.
If anyone can help in any way I would be so grateful, thankyou.
Sammy.

Great work Jean ...and for the record Farnworth was a village between Widnes and Prescot but with the Chemical industry growing in Widnes , Farnworth is now an outside district of Widnes....and I am only 5 miles away in Garston,Liverpool....allan ;)(Hornby is a well known name around this area)
ADDED...I`ve just googled Farnworth ,Widnes and Wiki has a detailed dossier all about Farnworth.....a good read for you...allan ;)

Hi Sammy,
William is my 4xgreat grandfather--i am descended from his son John Hornby--unfortunately dont have any info about where he came from either--suspect his wife may be Elizabeth Houghton -married 21/9/1766 at St.Nicholas's,Liverpool--but no proof yet--will have to get into Liverpool to view copy of register to see if there is any more info

Hi,
William Hornby (1774) is my 5xgrt grandfather. and my family is via his son George (1813). I am based in Prescot and have followed my tree back to 1745. I got a lot of my records from Lancashire online parish records - www.lan-opc.org.uk which may be useful to you.

I think the second Elizabeth Hornby may have been my Great Great Grandmother. She married George Fitzjon Hayles.

I don't know if it's of any interest to you Hornby descendants, but there were three Prescot men named William Hornby who were killed in the Great War.
They are all commemorated on my website at www.prescot-rollofhonour.info (http://www.prescot-rollofhonour.info)
Two of them were cousins and the third was their Uncle.
