Irish Civil records are not available online but you can search the index to these at the familysearch Irish Civil Index at : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347
If you find a promising match you can order certs from the GRO (http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm) using the index details from the above - they require name, record type (e.g. birth) year/quarter, registration district, volume & page

Hi there
I'm sure that the thomas traynor that you refer to is the one that has a statue of him in tullow itself and was a soldier in the struggle for irish freedom.
I'm sorry but i cannot find an answer to your question. But I have a suggestion. Usually the local library would hold more detailed info on local heroes etc. Maybe you could start by giving tullow library a shout;
TULLOW LIBRARY
Link Road, Tullow
WE ARE OPEN:

hope that helped.

Thanks to you both.
I found these links and info - and also old newspaper articles about what happened at the time - it is such an amazing (and sad) story) - the papers talk about his family but ay his mother 'Mrs Traynor' which is not very helpful!!
He was execcuted by hanging on 25 April 1921....and buried in the groundsof mount joy prison. He was (his body) eventually released in 2001 and was given a state funeral.
I am trying to find a link to my Trainor family (also from Ireland)....my dad remembers as a child being told that a relative was 'murdered' by hanging in Mountjoy prison.....when he told me this I started to search and found Thomas.
I am now on a mission to find the family connection!
Thanks, Nicola

I presume you have already seen the possible match for his birth in 1882, (there is none in 1881) :
Name: Thomas Traynor
Registration district: Carlow
Record type: BIRTHS
Registration date - quarter and year: Apr - Jun 1882
Volume: 3 / Page: 425

I did see this yes and ordered the certificate. I am also trying to locate his marriage so that I can then match up to see if it is the same person. I am also taking a guess on the marriage record at this stage. I have also contacted Tullow and Carlow libraries so I am progressing.
Thanks, Nicola

based on the census (Elizabeth & all children born Dublin City ) I'd say the marriage for Thomas was in Dublin - found this possible match :
Name: Thomas Traynor
Registration Dist. : Dublin South
Record type: Marriage
Qtr/Year : Apr - Jun 1902
Volume: 2 / Page: 681
Name: Elizabeth Davis
[same index details]

hi
amazing to think that you contact this forum and didn't know that there was a statue of him in tullow, another truly success story for this website!
Just looking at the census for 1911, there are absolutely no traynors in the county of carlow. Would his family had moved elsewhere shortly after his birth?
Also one thing worth considering, is that like other parts of co.carlow, the civil parishes are sometimes registered as a place outside the county, like where my relatives are in clonegal,to see their birth records you must look under shillelagh, in co.wicklow. I only say this as tullow is one of those towns that is not that far from another county border.
I also say this because, according to wikipedia, thomas was born 27 may 1881, that i would say that the civil birth that shane gave you was a year later?
I too have looked at the family search pilot and there is only one TT from carlow around that time, which is the 1882 one, though there is another that fits the age criteria and that is
william thomas traynor
april-june 1881
dublin south
volume 2 page 767
Hope this has helped
all the best

Hi, My mother was a Traynor, her father Michael's father was also a Thomas Traynor. They were from Aughrim, Co. Wicklow. My mothers brother Joseph Traynor was shot dead in Croke Park on Bloody Sunday 1920.
I too have wondered about Thomas Traynor, Tullow. Has anyone any information on who his parents were, and did he have a Wicklow connection? as Tullow is close enough to the Wicklow border. ???
-
My Mother was a Traynor. Her brother Joseph Traynor was one of the fourteen shot dead in Croke Park on Bloody Sunday 1920. My grandfather Michael Traynor son of another Thomas Traynor was from Aughrim Wicklow. Refrences were made in the family that there was a connection to the Carlow family.
Thomas Traynor (Carlow) is listed in the 1901 and 1011 census in Dublin. He was a bootmaker. At the time of his death he was living at Ceants Forth, Mount Brown.
