Hi Jason, If you bought her birth cert. you'd find the names of her parents.

I'm assuming there you want to trace her backwards.

The information i have is a copy of the Death certificate. I have also found a marriage certificate from the district of Birmingham dated 10/04/1943 to Moore Henry Arthur Harrison
that states her maiden name as Murphy. her farthers name was Henry this is all the information i have

 - you will have to order an extract of her birth certificate. Because you have the exact date of birth but only "Scotland" as a place, I'd suggest going through the GRO and just giving them the name and birthdate.

Does the 1943 marriage also say what her father's occupation was?
Who were the witnesses to her marriage?

Hi All

There are 12 entries for the births of Ann* Murphy in Scotland in 1928. Unlike the English BMD indexes, no quarters given on Scotlands People for entries to help you narrow down results, nor for births do mothers' maiden names show.

As suggested, a request for a search would be the best option (otherwise it is £10 per order of an extract if you do it on line on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk) You have key data, birth date (although always good to add a couple of years either way) and father's name, which will all help on the searches.

When you do find the right entry for Anne, it should include a date and place for parents' marriage which will help you in working back  :)
