Title: KENNA research
Post by: chrismon on Monday 16 November 09 13:14 GMT (UK)
Hi everyone  I,m looking for Norah Kenna who was living in Walgett N.S.W. Australia in 1896.At that time she was the licence  of the Sportsman Arms Hotel. It,s possible she is my G.G.Grandmother.My Grandfather Alfred John Clarence Lloyd  married a Norah Kenna in 1895 in Walgett ,whose mother was also Norah.I have no birth dates for either of these women, but my Grandmother died in 1945 at Petersham Sydney N.S.W. Australia

regards Chrismon

Hi there,

Do you have the NSW marriage certificate for the 1895 marriage?  If so, how old was she when she married... and does the document show where she was born or other clues please...

Cheers,

JM

 Hi Chrismon

sorry JM don,t have marriage cert. Just details from B.D.Ms Some confusion about Norah ,there is two entries one for Norah Thomas, one for Norah Kenna ,same husband.regards Chrismon

I think you will find that there's just one marriage certificate for Norah's 1895 marriage at Walgett, but that its been indexed and listed under both THOMAS and KENNA... The reference number, 7843/1895, is the same for both her indexed surnames.  If you were to order a transcript of the certificate, just mention to the transcription agent that there's TWO indexed surnames for the bride...

Transcription Agents are not as expensive, (and a lot quicker) than the NSW Reg. General's office...  I'll modify this post with the rootschat link ...

On the Sands and McDougall Directory 1904
Kenna, Mrs N, baker, Walgett

Don't know if this was the mother or the daughter  ???

The only Lloyd who showed on the electoral roll in Walgett is a John LLOYD, hairdresser.
However in the Sands and McDougall 1919 is A J C Lloyd, grocer, Walgett

You probaly have these:
NSW BMD death entry for Norman LLOYD reg Walgett 1901, father Alfred J C, mother Nora
Also death for John LLOYD, reg Newtown 1965, father Alfred John, mother Nora

And three LLOYD births with parents Alfred J C and Nora at Walgett
Norman 1901
Alfred 1901
Lucy M 1905

Hi Chris

That distance is quite a long way, but its not that far really, for a drover ... I have forebears who in the late 19th C were droving stock from just about anywhere in Qld (Winton, Blackall, etc) to anywhere in western NSW (Burke, Walgett etc)  and into Victoria and to Sth Aust...  Albury was sometimes the town where some of my lot rested between contracts...   Its worth considering those Albury births ...

Cheers,

JM
