The mealor family from Ness (in between Burton and Neston) ran a plough making business, its now a lawnmower shop but i don't think its actualy owned by the mealors any more.I've attached a photo which shows the sign for Mealors plough shop on the right
-
Thank you for the photo.
Since I posted this request, I have found a Mealor descendent in Aus. and more possible eveidence that James Mealor married the "Right" Mary Miller Rees in 1880.
My notes show me that her brother David Lee Rees (31)was the head teacher of Lanfyn(y)dd School in 1881 Census, and that his mother Martha and niece Amy Seddon were there as well.
It looks like Gwern Hefrig, Hope may be close by. Do you know where that farm was?
It would seem that David died young in 1885
Regards.

Information from book Neston 1840-1940 published by the Burton and South Wirral local history society (copies quite often pop up on ebay)
Samuel mealor and his wife Margaret both born in willaston but had moved to ness by 1851 (methodist family).Their eldest surviving son Joseph was born in ness in 1852 but does not show on the local 1871 census was presumed to be apprenticed away from home as he is shown in the 1881 census as a blacksmith.Joseph started the plough company and filed many patents for plough designs(there was a blacksmiths as part of the plough business).By 1935 the proprietors were joseph mealor (snr) and his son john j mealor.
The premises won't be there much longer as planning permission was granted for the building of houses on the yard but the original building will be incorperated in the design

I've split this from the original 2004 topic which is here:

This may be of interest to other people:
Mary Miller Mealor, nee Rees just located.
Died 28 Jan 1885 Chicago, Cook County Illinois.
Buried Graceland ; housewife; record #1030906
Haven't found passage to USA or Canada record post 1881 Census of Hope, Flint, Wales
Death in 1885 means possible couple of children, if any one has the time or access to other records than I do.

Keith

The Yard has now gone and has new houses on the site but with hardly any space to the front or back, they may struggle to sell.

The Wrexham Advertiser, and North Wales News October 01, 1881
There was a court case between James Maelor ( Mealor ) and his (unnamed) brother who was living in Birkenhead. .
It is definately them, Mary is mentioned along with the farm Gwerneffrech.
-
Thank you Wilcoxon.
I will see if I can access this newspaper article through the National Library in Canberra.
A word back from the Graceland Cemetery EO confirms that Mary Miller Mealor, nee Rees, died in a single grave, thus not much detail to add. I would need to work more on a possible brother of James' going to Illinois as well, to match the Mealor child buried in the same cemetery.
Birkenhead rings a bell from a previous search, so I will look up 1881 Census details to see if Mary and James Mealor had moved there now that you have supplied details of a court action.
Thanks,
Keith Rees

Thank you Wilcoxon.
I am having trouble finding the article on the court case.
A firend did find another article .... I Sarah Mealor, farmer, Neston stating that she was no responsible for any debts of James Mealor; however, I can't enlarge it and having trouble reading the date.
It seems James may have any one or two issues with his family, and then was his wife Mary Miller Rees buried in a single grave in Illinois - meaning no mention of her next of kin - her husband.
Looking forward to what you have found.

Keith

Going by the description of the area in 1881, Gwern Hefrig is in Nant Y Frith, Uchymynydd Ucha , which is in the Llanfynydd area.
I have tried to locate it, but can`t find it marked.
The link takes you to the village of Llanfynydd, and I think that if you keep panning down till you reach Bwlchgwyn , that the farm was somewere in that area.

The Wrexham Advertiser, and North Wales News Saturday, January 01, 1881
Marriage
December 28th at Llanfynydd Church by the Rev T R Lloyd rector, James the son of the late Samuel Mealor of Neston to Mary Millar daughter of the late G M Rees of Fishguard.
-
Thank you Annette
Mary Miller Rees, of full age, married James Mealor on the 28th. Dec 1880, at the Parish Church of Llanfyndd, in the County of Flint. The certificate confirms that Mary Miller was the daughter of George Manning Rees, watchmaker. James, who is also of full age, and a farmer, was the son of Samuel Mealor. Both were living in Llanfyndd. The witnesses were David Lee Rees and Emma Lewis. The ceremony was performed by license and signed by Thomas H. Lloyd.
I have just found two Census records for a Sarah Mealor of Ness whi is highly likely to be his mother.
She may have also died 30 May 1875 at Raby as their was a Probate for her. Her exec were her brother Thomas Pyke and a John Evans of Little Neston.
Plenty of other kids.

Newspaper report has year as 1878
A firend did find another article .... I Sarah Mealor, farmer, Neston stating that she was no responsible for any debts of James Mealor; however, I can't enlarge it and having trouble reading the date.
The date is 14 May 1878, there is no indication as to the relationship between Sarah and James.

A very special expression of thanks to Wilcoxon for her extra help with finding details about the Mealor families (Ness area).
There may be a link with this Mealor topic and a previous one posted, to I will make contact with the other researcher once I sort through Wilcxon's contributions.

Thank you Wilcoxon.
Yes, with the baby born in Birkenhead, your result is better than what I could find, and seems to be correct. Wm birthdate is about right.
I tried all options last night for passenger/emigration 1881 to 1885 for James Mealor and Mrs. M or Mary Mealor to USA / Canada but found nothing.
Another of Mary Miller Rees' brothers George Manning Rees Junior came to Aus, so may keep that option of the Mealors coming here; finding no gold, so gone to USA - as another option. A number of Mealors from Neston did settle in Albury/Wodonga Aus so that also may have been a link.
Interesting that the plaintiff is named; so is the defendant's wife, but not the defendant who was also guilty of fraud in that little disagreement of rent.
