Seeking info john nelson fairgrieve scott b dunse 1881,  m rebecca mc clean b 1882 m newcastle 1905 - parents John scott and Eliza Fairgrieve (stuck) can anyone help

-
I think that Eliza Fairgrieve is Eliza Adams born 23 Feb 1860  Duns, Berwickshire, Scotland, illegitimate daughter of Eliza Adams.
John & Eliza Scott's second child is Mary Sutherland Scott (born 1882 in England) and in 1861 one year old Eliza Adams is a boarder in the boarding house of Mary Sutherland. She is still there in 1871 (Dunse Parish Lodging House).
In 1881 in the same household as the Scotts is elderly Thomas & Isabella Fairgrieve who may have adopted Eliza.

Now to Mary Sutherland, maybe grandma of Eliza  ???

-
I have traced Mary Sutherland back and there it seems like ther is no family connection. But as Eliza lived with her for at least 11 years obviously she was like a Mother to her. That is probably why she names a daughter after her :)

-
Mary Sutherland would just have been keeper of the boarding house and would most likely be no relation. Mother Eliza was living in Edrom in 1861 not able to care for young Eliza.
BTW, John Scott married Eliza Adams in Duns in 1878 so she didn't marry under the name of Fairgrieve.

thank you so much all of you - the info I had on Mary was that she was a foundling named after the Sutherland Homes where she was dropped , therefore Mary Sutherland Scott - who became sister to the Gfather JNF Scott I was told learned to use a rifle from his father who was a poacher 'finder' game keeper on some estate - it seems we have another one born on the other side of the blanket. No knowledge of any other siblingsto JNF.  Scotts then moved to Blairgowrie leaving in 1895 I have a silver tea service presented to them. Last known adress for Mary and Jane was 47 Stevenson Dr. Shawlands. Glasgow on 26.8.1930 in a letter to my Mother. How do you do it!

-
Mary S Scott has written a letter to my mother from 47 Deanston Dr. Shawlands signed Aunt Mary and Uncle Alex Scott - but  she married Alex later in life - the letter was sent late 1949 - I have an old photo of her  wedding  - and she isn't young.  Twins of JNF Scott & Rebecca (McClean of Newcastle)were called Robert Nicholas and John Nelson - the Nelson has carried on to another generation.

-
Trish & April - ta muchly for help am I right -
 Robert Nelson m Elizabeth Lumsden
daughter Helen marries John Scott Snr
 Son John marries Eliza Adams
children are JNF and adopted Mary -
how far back are we with robert Nelson & Elizabeth?  Does this tie in your wealth of info? the name Nelson is definitely feasible - maybe there is truth in the story we are tied into Horatio? (Its hot here - 35deg) Vic.Aus.

I have discovered a connection to my tree as Eliza Adam jnr's cousin Mary Pollock married my great great uncle Thomas Ramsay. I have added your family to one of my Ancestry trees so I'll send you an invitation so that you can view it.  I'll PM you for your email address

Looks like the family info on Mary Sutherland Scott could be incorrect.

 If I was you I would be getting her Birth Cert;

 Mary Sutherland SCOTT
 March 1882
 Berwick 10b 370

I really feel for you in the heat wave. I hope that there are no major bushfires in the next few days.

 Cheers,
 Trish

Excellent April. We must both be night owls here in Australia ;)

Very late to the party on this! I come in via the Nelson connection - my g/g/g/f was a John Lumsden NELSON (b. 16 Mar 1833 d.15 Feb 1891) who was a comb factory manager in Aberdeen - he is Helen Nelsons' (who married William Scott) brother.

Their father Robert Nelson was a combmaker who died of a fever in Edinburgh on 13 Apr 1839, after which time his widow Elizabeth (nee Lumsden) and sons John and Robert move to Aberdeen.

Never got further on Nelson. Only other clue was on his parish marriage record from 28 Apr 1825 (canongate, Edinburgh)

On his marriage record, he is recorded as living at 281 High St., Canongate. The wedding was certified by a Joseph Nelson, combmaker of Coul's Close, possibly his father as Robert was a minor at this point, and a Robert Watt.
