A few more details are going to help.  From where is his birth date from the IGI?  Have you found him or any of his family on an early census?
I see he married Sarah in 1808;

Trotton, West Sussex, 29 Oct 1808:
 William HODGES
 Sarah STEEL

Hello, I got this information off a film that i had sent away for, which they take a long time to get to New Zealand about 4 months.  I have 1 child so far his name is Henry born 1811 Trotton, he married Sarah Lock in 1844, i haven't found any other children yet. I found Henry on the census.  Going back to William born (1762) i found his father also called William born 1735 and he married Jane Budd.
Hope this helps
Cheers

There are 5 people on the Genes Reunited website with your Henry (born Trotton 1811) in their family tree.
One also has a William born Trotton 1790 and three others with a William born 1762.
Unfortunately you never signed either of your messages, so I have no idea whether any of those is also you, but I suggest you try looking at this website to see if someone there already has obtained the information you seek.

Probably the best place to look online is at FindmyPast
http://www.findmypast.com/welcome.jsp  although I looked at the Sussex burials for William Hodges I couldn't really find anything conclusive  :(
Just as a matter of interest I looked for baptism's in Trotton for the Hodges name at Hugh Wallis's site & it looks as though Henry (1811 Trotton) was the last so maybe the family moved. The county of Hampshire is right next door to Trotton...just another possibility  :-\

Hi,

William Hodges and Sarah Steel are ancestors of mine. I have the family tree for William Hodges going back to 1600s.

How's your research going?

Hello Mark, Thankyou for your quick reply, looks like that could be the right Hodges Family. William was born 1762 and Sarah wasn't sure when she was born.
Thank you Again,
Cheers Lynne

Hello Elaine,
I have only got back to Will Hodges born about 1735 and married to Jane Budd 1761. On Henry Hodges born 1811, I  have him married to Sarah Lock she was born about 1823 in Witley. Mother is Frances Lock. Don't have any more information   on Sarah I was researching the Dyer Family and got side tracked onto the Hodges Family.
Thank you for your reply.
Cheers Lynne

Hi Lynne,

Yes it's really easy to get diverted from your main target!!!

Just let me know if you want to know more about William Hodges' ancestors/descendants who lived in the Rogate/Trotton/Chithurst area.

Henry's wife Sarah Lock was, I believe, illegitimate and spent some time living with her mother Frances in Hambledon Poor House, Witley, Surrey.  Henry was my mother's father's grandfather)

Elaine

Hi Elaine,
Do you have any information on Frances birth or parents, or any thing on the Dyers side. Ellen Hodges b1861 married Paice and there daughter Ellen married Dyer.
 Cheers Lynne
