Title: Murdock Ballantyne - some help please
Post by: heaven on Saturday 07 November 09 05:44 GMT (UK)
I have an ancestor,  MURDOCK BALLANTYNE, born 1n 1862, Scotland, parents George and Catherine. They later moved to Liverpool according to census records. I have found an index on Ancestry for the England & Wales Criminal Registers 1791-1892 for  MURDOCK.
Date of trial 4 Feb 1884, trial year 1844 , Location of trial Lancashire.
charge was murder , verdict Not Guilty.  He would have been aged 22.
Would anyone know if I can follow this up with records or newspapers, and if so can you help.

There is an entry I have found in The Belfast News-Letter (Belfast, Ireland), Tuesday, February 19, 1884; Issue 21399.

It might take a while for me to transcribe it, if you would prefer to send me a pm with your email address I can forward something to you

Heaven,
I have a MURDOCH McKENZIE BALLENTYNE b. 02 Dec 1862 at 212 Elliot Street Glasgow to George Ballentyne and Catherine McKenzie.
My information is that he died in 1952 and he never married or had children.  I have a little more information if this is the correct person and would be interested in your connection.

Heaven,
The birth and parental records match the Murdoch that Zonker is talking about. He never married. He was a Master Mariner. Lived 147, Boundary St, Liverpool. He moved into the Liverpool Home for Aged Mariners  (Cliff House) Wallasey, Wirral on 2/6/1926 aged 64 and died 9/3/1952. He is buried at Frankby Cemetry, No 744, Section B.  This Murdoch was my Great Grandmothers brother. She was Agnes Ballantyne. I have more on this family if you are interested.

Just been looking at your previous posts Heaven and I don't think this Ballantyne family is ours from the research we have done. Murdochs family went straight to Liverpool - not Carlisle. John was born in 1860 at Scott St, Glasgow. We followed a similar detour at one point, also via someone on this site I think. If I can find the post I will link it here.
