Hello

I am trying to trace my family tree on my mothers side whose surname was Kearns who was born in Clonmel, all I know is her father was  called Patrick, if anyone could help me where to start tracing in Ireland that would be great.

Thanks for your email, all I know is that my mum was born in Clonmell in 1929 and had a sister Anne and a brother who I think was called Billy but he died when he was young not sure when.  My mum still has relatives living in southern ireland.

the place to start your search is with the Civil index - this is available online on familysearch at : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#c=1408347;p=2;t=searchable

Clonmel town is in the registration district also named Clonmel which covers the town and some of the surrounding rural area.

If you find promising matches you can order BMD certs from the GRO (see: http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm) using the references from this index (name, year/quarter, registration district, volume & page)

there's a Kearns household listed on the 1911 census in the townland of Haywood. I dont see this townland listed on a modern map, but it seems to be close to Clonmel as it's in the same registration district  see: Clonmel Rural, #6, Haywood (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Tipperary/Clonmel_Rural/Haywood/819094/)

From 1928 the index for births includes the mother's maiden name, which may assist in your search.

For what its worth;
KEARNS, JOHN, Rank; Private. No 4640, Leinster Regiment, 2nd Bn, Died 01-Sep-16, Born; Cashel, Co Tipperary, enlisted in Cork while living in Cashel. Killed in Action in France during the Battle of the Somme trying to regain Theipval Village from the Germans. Has no known grave but is commemorated on Pier and Face 3 A on the Theipval Memorial in France.

Also try the Kearns-Cairns Irish Civil Registration site. I t's very useful but ,alas, hasn't found the family of a  Thomas Kearns I am looking for.

My family are Kearns from Clonmel. My aunt did some research into the family tree and there was a Patrick Kearns.

Clonmel graveyards website has records for Powerstown Church graveyard which is on the outskirts of Clonmel.

A Patrick Kearns of Glenaleamy Clonmel, who died on 14 Jan 1939 is buried there. Also Johanna Kearns of Glenaleamy who died 14/2/42.

If you google clonmel graveyards you can view the information.
