Hello to All!
I have joined RootsChat hoping that someone out there will be able to help me with my brick wall. I am looking for JOHN HOYE born c1822 in the UK, birthplace given on his death certificate as Gloucestershire and mother's name as Ann.
John Hoye came to Australia in the early 1850's and married a Jane Batt from Somerset UK in Goulburn NSW in 1854. I have full details for the family from that date but have been unable to locate his Birth or any other information in the UK.
I will be forever grateful to anyone who can assist me as I have been searching for the elusive John for quite a few years!
Thanks in advance.

Hi ginya :)
Welcome to rootschat.
There is this extracted record on IGI
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true
HOY John
Baptism 19 May 1822 Burrough Green, Cambridge, Eng
Parents No father recorded Mother Ann HOY
Can't see another with mother Ann and birth c1822.
Have you the 1854 marriage cert? Being a parish record it may not have a lot of info. If you do have the record, is that the source of his mother's name? or perhaps it is his death cert. Death certificates are not always the most reliable for accurate info.
Mariage
1854443185/1854
HOYE John
BATT Jane
District IQ = Wesleyan Methodist -
Co. Argyle, Goulburn, Gunning, Yass
Death

HOYE John
Mother Ann
District Ashfield
Is his place of birth consistent on any other documents eg the birth certs of his children ie if you have them?
It wouldn't be the first time that the place of birth was confused with the place the person was raised.
Have you John's arrival in Aus? His immigration record may reveal a little more.
Cheers

Just to confirm Candos findings....on www.freebmd.org.uk there are NO matches for Hoye births in Gloucestershire on record...there are however plenty of HOY births...the early ones are in Cheltenham..1837-1844...........
Jane Batt b sep qtr 1837 Bedminster ,Somerset, ref no 11 56 .............I`ll be really surprised if this is your Jane Batt, but it is a possibility...the only Jane Batt on record...but as records didn`t begin until 1837 it`s a long shot.........allan ;)

If this is Jane BATT's death -

A snippet
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street,_Somerset
Arriving in NSW as an assisted immigrants on the Sea in 1849 were-
BATT William, aged 39, a farm labourer born ?ggleton, Somersetshire. His parents John and Ann, both dead. He was Church of England and could read and write.
BATT Sophia, aged 42 years, dairywoman, born Pittney, Somersetshire. Her parents William and Ann TAYLOR, dead. She was Church of England and could read and write.
BATT Jane, 12 years, born Stret, Somersetshire. She was Church of England and could read and write.
BATT Mary Ann 10 years, born Stret, Somershire. She was Church of England and could read.
State of health, strength, and probable usefulness were good for all of them.
The birth dates and names of the children are a match with the 1841 census but the mother's name is not Ann. Could Ann have died and Wm remarried. I can find a death but no remarriage. Are Ann and Sophia the same person as in the parents names column it would surely list Mother - Ann, as dead for both Jane and Mary Ann.
Deaths Mar 1844
BATT Ann Langport 10/34
Some possibilities -
Deaths
3748/1864
BATT William Aged 65 years Died Goulburn
District Goulburn
7121/1873
BATT Sophia
Father William Died Wagga Wagga
District Wagga Wagga
and
Marriage
1888/1859
FRY John William
BATT Mary Ann
District Goulburn
I can't find a death for Mary Ann and note that a John W FRY died in 1887. Perhaps it was her husband. I was hoping to find her death with parents given names. Of course she may not have died in NSW.

Hi ginya
I, too, am researching this line. Although I am not directly related, my nephew and niece are, being the grandchildren of Mary Mahalah Elizabeth GOLDFINCH, a dau of Thomas GOLDFINCH and Mary Anne HOYE.
Send me a personal message (if you are able) and we'll compare notes.
