Title: THomas Corkish
Post by: penderiki on Wednesday 04 November 09 19:15 GMT (UK)
Hi...I am wondering if anyone can help with the following:

The family of a Thomas Corkish who i believe was born in the Isle of Man c 1885.
he moved to Ireland and married a Julia Evans.
He was drowned off the Wexford coast on 4th December 1947 and is buried in Wicklow.

Any information at all would be great as I know absolutely nothing about his family.

Thanks,

Tom.

Hi,

Thank you for that info.
I dont know if he gad a middle name or not...at this point I essentially only know the name and some detail from the Irish end.
This gives me something to work on.

Thanks,
Tom.

Hi,
I did not get much more at this point...this is what i have.............

Thomas Corkish b IOM moved to Ireland and married a Julia Evans
Thomas's parents were Henry Corkish and Elizabeth Garret
Henry's parents were John Corkish and Elizabeth Magee

None of this is verified as yet by any documentation.

I have information on the Irish Evans side but nothing more on the IOM side of things.

If you have anything to add I would be grateful

Best wishes,

Tom.

Elizth Magee is likely to be d/o Hugh Magee + Elizth Skillicorn - no marr found but in 1841 a dyer at Tromode and in 1851 a woollen dyer at Balladoyne German - thre of their children inc Elizabeth (betsy) have RC bapts but later child bapt at Douglas St Georges
He give birth place as Douglas  in 1851 but no bapt found (many of Tromode workers were Irish as the Moores had commercial links to northern ireland) - Elizth give birth as Malew which suggests ?illeg d/o Wm Skillicorn + Margt Quayle

Hello,

I  believe Thomas Corkish and Julia Evans are my great grandparents.  My mother is named after Julia too.  Could you tell me more about the Evans?  I'd really like to know.

Thank you,

Anne-Marie

Has anyone seen this?  I'm not sure about Thomas being the son of Elizabeth and Henry - is there any hard evidence of this?  Would be great if he was as this tree goes back a long way

Thanks Ger that is great!  So Thomas Corkish (born 1885) who married Julia Evans (my great grandparents) is not on this family tree just because he was born after his siblings who are mentioned here.  This tree goes way back! http://www.iomfhs.im/lawsons/LawsonBMD/manx_law/v1/corkish.pdf

Thanks for the clarification.  Wonderful to know

Anne-Marie
