Hi, l wonder if anyone has access to the Warminster parish records and if so would they very kindly look to see if there is a baptism recorded for a Benjamin GILES around August 1744, there are 2 entries on the online IGI but both are submitted records and l wanted to confirm the details, if anyone can help or offer some guidance l would be extremely grateful.
Kind regards
Robert

From a transcript (usually very reliable in my experience)
Benjamin Giles baptised 31 Aug 1744 Warminster, son of William & Hannah.
Hope that helps

Hi Nell, l can't thank you enough for the info, it really is most kind off you, could l impose on your time once more and ask if there are any siblings to Benjamin in that time frame?
Best wishes

There seem to be. All the following have parents with the same names and baptised in the same church.
William 24 Sep 1735
Israel 16 Apr 1747
William 21 Aug 1749
Joseph 6 Jan 1752
Jane 17 Sep 1755
Michael 23 Apr 1758
The first William may belong to a different family since there is 9 years before Benjamin's birth/baptism.
There is a marriage for William Giles to Hannah Humphries in Warminster 2 Jun 1735.
Perhaps - if it is the same couple - they did not live in Warminster for a few years.

Robert-
I see that you are researching a GILES family from Warminster. I am wondering if it is th same as mine. I can only go back to Matthias GILES, father of Charles b. 1830. I believe Charles' mother was Mary Ann. If this is your GILES family, please conatct me.
Thanks

Hi Dawn, the names you mention don't appear in my Giles line, my particular line starts with Benjamin Giles who was born c1744 in Warminster, also this Giles family were mainly Iron Founders.
Sorry l can't be of more help.
Best wishes

Robert:
I see that you have an interest in the Giles family from the Warminster area.
My GGGF John Stevens b. 1800 Hindon married Mary Giles 1825 in East Knoyle.
I have found two prospective Mary Giles 1).Mary d/o William and Eleanor Turner bapt Warminster 1799 2). Mary d/o John and Mary Dodimead bapt 1803 Warminster.
Both John and William were probably brothers, s/o of Benjamin & Rebeka Giles.
My problem is which of the Mary's married John Stevens?
It seems Mary Giles Stevens died Heytesbury/Warminster between 1831 and 1841 (last child Mary bapt 1831 John had new wife in 1841)
I think my best bet would be a age at time of burial - but can't find a burial.
Any ideas?
Tks

Hi Simon, my apologies for not having replied sooner but have been very busy and have only today read your message, unfortunately l know very little of Mary A GILES other than her parentage and baptism date, my only suggestion would be to post on this list asking sks to do a burial look up for Mary? sorry l can't be of more help.
Let me know if you strike lucky.
Best wishes

I would be interested in any information about why and where did this couple go when "not in Warminster for a few years". I have recently come across them in my family tree and am unable to find any parents for Hannah. Grateful for any tips.

Welcome to RootsChat :)
I'm afraid I don't know if they did live elsewhere - it was a suggestion to account for the gap between the baptisms of the first William and Benjamin in the Warminster registers.
Hannah might have been born outside Wiltshire and her family moved to the area in her childhood. My Warminster ancestors arrived from Shepton Mallet and Frome.
