Hi all,
I'm looking for some help please.
According to Ancestry's transcription of the Scottish 1861 Census, 35 year old Andrew Fullerton was born in 'Listock', Ireland, c1826. Is there such a place or is this another howler of a mistranscription?
He doesn't seem to appear on the 1851 Scottish Census - so I'm thinking he must have come over from Ireland just after census was taken (30/31st March 1851).
He married Mary Ann Dunlop, also from Ireland, in Gorbals Parish, Glasgow 11th April 1852.
His parents were Robert Fullerton, born c1791 and Margaret Simpson, born c1788, both born Ireland
His grandfather was Seth Fullerton, Farmer, born c?, born Ireland. (Info from Robert's D.C.)
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your replies.
Are there any sites like 'Freecen' for Ireland?

the Irish Census data is available free on the National Archives website at : http://census.nationalarchives.ie/
at the present just the 1911 data is available, the 1901 data is due to be added by early next year (no earlier census records have survived)

Civil registration for all commenced in 1864 and 1845 for non-catholic marriages. Before those dates you can use church records which usually start in the late 1700's to early 1800's depending on parish.
However, in order to search these records you will need to know what religion the people were and what townland or parish they lived in.
All is not lost but it may take some time.

In the absence of C19th census returns, the best place to start is Griffith - a listing of every householder in Ireland from around the 1850s (precise date varies by county). It is available free and fully searchable on this site:-
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml
If you identify your ancestors in the index, you and click on the map and see the actual location of the house they lived in superimposed on a modern streetmap. It's a great resource and every head of household is listed, from the smallest cottage to the grandest house.
A quick search showed no Seths, but there are 18 Robert Fullertons - all in Ulster counties. One of these is Robert Fullerton of Glencar in Conwal Parish, Co Donegal (Listack is in the same parish but no Fullerton households listed there).

Hello Anne
Have been trying to find Listock for weeks! Andrew Fullerton and Mary Ann Dunlop are my great great grandparents. Andrew came to Scotland and married there as did Mary Ann. Andrew's sister Agnes married Mary Ann's uncle Samuel Dunlop.
Contact me if you would like more info or if you are part of our family.

Ann, I apologize for an unrelated post here but I wanted to contact you regarding a post which you made a couple of years ago on a thread related to the Nielsons of Fife (now locked) which I just discovered today. You posted there about the Neilson family you found in Gartsherrie churchyard. James Neilson and Jane Shepherd were my great-grandparents and based on information I have, their ancestors do not match with any of the names/dates in the Nielson thread. Since you seem to have some knowledge of the Coatbridge area, I would be interested in further contact with you.
