Would someone be able to check if there was a marriage for Lewis Gordon Shaw SMITH please.
I have just received his son's birth certificate (NSW) and it states that the marriage took place in Port Adelaide 24 July 1876. Rosa Humbleton is his mother's name.
There are children born NSW for this couple - Thomas 1885, Blanche 1889, Lewis 1891 and Janet 1894 so there could also be some births in SA.

I can't find any other mention of Rosa or Lewis in SA BDM, GJ, nor any mention in BISA.
Dee :)

Thanks Dee, I was wondering about the BISA. Lewis was a Mariner and I see that Glanville was in the Port area of Adelaide. Rosa was supposedly born in London so may not have had any other family there.

I think this might be Rosa's baptism.....
Rosa Hambleton born 15th Feb 1856 baptised 2nd March 1856 at St Marylebone, Westminster.
Parents = David and Elizabeth of Henry St.
David's occupation = fishmonger.
It matches her age......

It certainly looks like Rosa and her family from all this extra information and now I have been able to find a death for her in NSW matching the parents names.
9504/1922 Rosa Smith - David and Elizabeth, Sydney
Lewis is another story though.........I am almost certain that he is also Lewis Gordon Shaw, a Master Mariner who married Louisa Dredge in 1892 in Sydney and had three children with her. There are quite a few similarities but I am going to the library tomrrow to check some deserter, crew lists etc.
I have also now found a death - 10000/1917 Lewis Smith, par. Alexander
Haven't been able to find what happened to Lewis Gordon Shaw ???
I certainly appreciate all you have given me Dee
