I am trying to get in contact with relatives of Rinty Monaghan. My great Grandmother was called Anne Monaghan.
-
A name from my childhood - from which it should be possible to gauge my age!
What did "Rinty" stand for - apart from trying not to be knocked down?
-
Hi Charles.
Try contacting, www.sailortownbelfast.org
The right area and a good chance you may get the info you require, as I'm sure the folk on this site will well remember Rinty.
Good luck,
Dixie

I remember there being articles about him, and possibly living relatives?, in the local newspapers when the blue plaque was unveiled.
There a book listed here- Rinty: The Story of a Champion (Hardcover) by Eamonn O'Hara:

I seem to remember listening to fights on the radio as a child. Rinty always sang at the end of the bout -win or lose- When Irish eyes are smiling.

Hi everyone, I'm also suppose to be related to Rinty Monaghan, distantly. Hes my grandfathers cousin. My grandfather came to America sometime ago and I was born here. My grandfather and all of his family are from Belfast. My grandfather and his parents are the only part of the family that came to America. The rest of his family is still in Belfast. My grandfather recently had a stroke so it's really hard to communicate with him. I would love any other information on our family back in Ireland and to establish some type of contact =)

Put a request to malapoist[at]irelandclick.com (Andersontown News) for relatives of Rinty. Good Luck.

As Liam said, his daughters, and some other family members reside in West belfast, but I believe I have cousins in the states! not exactly sure where they live, haha.

Rinty Monaghan is a relative and came to our house in Moreton, Wirral, Merseyside when he had fights in Liverpool stadium. He trained in Johnny Campbell's gym in Birkenhead. My brothers and father went to the fights. He won the world title in Glasgow fighting Jackie Patterson, winning in the seventh round.

I have a photo of Rinty wearing Lonsdale belt.
-
Hiya, my granda, Joe Farrell, and Rinty were cousins. That's as much as I know. Do you know rintys mothers name? We're not sure if they are related through my grandas fathers side or mothers side of the family

You may find information at https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/services/go-groni-online. When I did a search, I found a couple of John Monaghans born between 1914 and 1916. The mother's maiden name is in the search results. You must set up an account and purchase credits to do a free search and then use credits to buy a certificate if you want one. We found Frank's relatives' information by doing this. Frank has an autographed picture of Rinty. Also, Rinty Monaghan's family belonged to St Patrick's Church, Donegall St., Belfast. You may be able to find a Baptismal Certificate there. Hope this information is helpful to you. The website is not that easy to use, but just keep trying and you'll eventually succeed. Good Luck.
