Title: William Pender
Post by: penderiki on Friday 30 October 09 19:39 GMT (UK)
Hi...I am looking for any information at all about a William Pender probably born in Carlow around the Ballon area. He married a Margaret Dunbar who is shown in the 1911 Census as living in Graignuemanagh, Kilkenny (just on the border with Carlow). Any information on either family would be great...
Thanks,
Tom

Welcome to Rootschat. Difficult to post exact information since you haven't given many details to help us assist you.
1911 census will give you his age (or approx. age), religion and approx. date of marriage. Marriage certificate (if during civil registration) should list fathers' name and occupation as well as their residences at time of marriage. Marriages usually took place in bride's church so that might be the place to look for records.

Thank you.
I have a candidate in a William Pender shown in the 1911 census as living in Tinnahinch town and aged 21 but cannot make a positive connection. Only other Data is that he was dead before my father Thomas Pender was born in North Wexford in 1921. Family rumour is that he died in an accident somewher in Kilkenny....that is the only information i have at this point.

Starting with the family rumour that William Pender died before 1921 in Kilkenny... civil index shows only 4 William Pender deaths under Kilkenny- none fit the person you are searching for. Also searched for Carlow deaths but couldn't see anything that fits. Index is here (free) if you want to do some searching-

Do you have a marriage certificate (should list father's name and occupation)?

Once again..thank you....I have been searching that site for him and other family members...and no...have not been able to find a marriage cert......it is possible that they had not been married prior to my father being born. It is this lack of data that is making him so elusive.....hopefully someone may have some information that will give a clue or two.
Regards,
Tom.

Are you sure William Pender married Margaret Dunbar? (and how could he have gotten married after your father was born if he died before your father was born?)

Hi,
No...he apparently was dead prior to my father being born. Margaret Dunbar was my father's mother but I cannot find a marriage record....as I said...perhaps they were never married. That is what is making things difficult and at this point I am working on oral data from family members who are now dead.

Hi,
I am still on the hunt for my Grandfather William. I am including the 1911 Census information for the Pender family in Tinnahinch in the hope that someone has any information on any of them.
Obvioulsy, I am particularly interested in the life of the William aged 21.
I would like, at the very least, to elimininate him as a candidate.
If anyone recognises this family, please reply with what you have.

Thanks,

Tom.
