i'm new at this not really sue how it works.
I've been told that i am related to James hammett of the tolpuddle martyrs and i was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me if they know of any siblings and who his parents were, dates would be brill if poss!

Hi there, the father of James Hammett (TM) was John and his mother Elizabeth. James' siblings were Elizabeth (my ggg grandmother), Honor, Denis, Henry, Denis, Ursula, Ursula, John, Maria, and Anna. (The duplicate presumably because the first with that name died as a child).
Best wishes

Flick believe you are related to the Milton Abbas Hammetts not Tolpuddle ones.

Hey folks
I hope I am not intruding.
I live in Australia, near to where James Hammett was assigned, and am hoping to be able to establish a memorial to him there.
First step (well, I think it is anyway) is to try to establish the precise location. I know it was called Woodlands, I have a map showing the location, but property boundaries, names, roads and even rivers change over decades and centuries (more so in Oz than in England), so any further information I can gather would be greatly appreciated. Distance to landmarks that still exist, for example.
Am off to Tolpuddle on Tuesday 29th July to see the museum.

Hi Irish Pete
James worked as a shepherd looking after the sheep at an isolated sheep station on the huge estate at Woodlands. Family legend suggests he made a well whilst he was there called Hammetts Well. Sorry I don't have any more information to pinpoint the exact location where he was, perhaps the Australian archives may have more information. Shame you did not come to Tolpuddle last weekend as it was the annual Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival (3rd weekend each July).
