Title: Pasture House, Garrigill.
Post by: Mr J T Arthur on Wednesday 28 October 09 22:54 GMT (UK)
I have a postcard sent from Pasture House, Garrigill, Alston 28th August 1931 from someone called "Evy" to my late aunt Miss Vera Keenan of Bank Top, Woodside, Ryton-on-Tyne. I have reason to believe that "Evy" was Miss Eveline Watson formerly of Bank Top, Woodside whose mother Hannah Robson was born Garrigill circa 1875; also mentioned is a "Becky" who I believe was Evy's sister Miss Rebecca Watson.

Can anyone identify this house and or connect the names Watson or Robson with it?

Here's a map http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=374500&Y=541500&A=Y&Z=120

That suggests they ought to be here http://tinyurl.com/yfy3xfy

Many thanks Geoff but I note there is a group of houses called 'Pasture Houses' as well a 'Pasture House' up a track some distance further away from Garrigill and the address I have is "Pasture House" so I was hoping someone with local knowledge would know.

Oh yes. I see that Pasture House is a bit further south http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=375380&Y=538985&A=Y&Z=120

In which case, it ought to be this one http://tinyurl.com/yzmuy7l

The track is rather faint, but the position of the house relative to the lane to Hole House suggests it is this house.

Thanks again Geoff but I fear Pasture House is no longer occupied as it it can't be found at the Royal Mail postal code search though numbers 1,2, and 3 Pasture Houses, Garrigill do come up.

Oh and I have been to Pasture Houses, tho never inside, so I know exactly where they stand.
As a child in the 1960s we used to go to Alston / Garrigill quite often and my Dad showed my Pasture Houses and we went past them many times

Hi Paul,
Do you know if you have a connection to the Renwick Watsons?
Best wishes,
