Title: DK Labourer
Post by: BethCotter on Wednesday 09 March 05 13:09 GMT (UK)
I have two ancestors listed in the 1891 Census' as Dk Labourers.  They both worked at Goauno Works (Manure).  Was wondering what the DK stood for?

Thanks, Beth

Depending on where you found them, one possibility would be DOCK labourer.

Another is "don't know", but we won't pursue that!!  ;D ;D

Thank you, I do believe that they lived near a Dock in Canning Town, that is a definite possibility.

Thanks again, Beth

If you are sure it's Canningtown that you are looking at .Then it's very possible that he worked on a Wharf on the River Thames. The nearest dock at that time would be East India Dock, now filled in with theTimes Newspaper Works on top of it.The Royal Group of Docks were not built until later.
