Hi
I have a George Croucher born in Cuckfield in 1819. I am trying to confirm the parents names as I cant seem to find him with his family in the 1841 census.
If anyone has any Baptism information that would be great. I think his mother maybe called Phebe Colman
Thanks

I have checked the original baptism entry in the register and it does not give any further details unfortunately. There is a marriage for Phoebe Croucher to George Gumbrel 11 June 1820 botp.

I started getting into this and it all ties together nicely. The 1841 census does have him living with his Grandparents and funnily enough has him living next door to his future wife. I already had George Croucher marrying Harriett Upton in 1843!
I can only imagine he changed his name back after George Gumbrell (essentially the man that is likely to have raised him) died
Exciting Stuff - Thanks again!

I asume you have the 1843 marriage details but if not I can give them to you. It says his father is George Croucher a tanner which is interesting. I see they lived at Pilstie in 1851. That farmhouse is still there.

Actually I only have the date and location. If you have witnesses and church name that would be great to have
