Hi
Has any one the 1851 and 1861 census for the Cranborne/Fern Down area.
Looking for any of the following brothers and sister.
George JACOBS b.1824
James JACOBS b.1826
Charlotte JACOBS b.1821 (possibly married and name changed)
All believed to have born in Cranborne.
Very many thanks.

Hi Kathy.
Very many thanks for the info.
Charlotte and James tie in rather well. Their parents were indeed Joseph and Elizabeth but Joseph was born about 1797. This would have made him 54 in 1851. Elizabeth was born 1789 so she would have been 62. So as you can see there is a slight difference.
In the 1851 census did they show the relationship of each family member?
Is it possible for you to send through a copy of this census or do I ask too much?
Again very many thanks for you help.

Hi,
I'm sorry I only have transcripts, the age difference could be a transcription error, although that means they got 2 wrong, Elizabeth may have told her husband she was younger than she was, as women do, I've rechecked and there is no one else in Dorset that fits the bill.

Hi Alli.
Thanks for all the wonderful information, some of which I had
but you have added to it no end.
The Joseph (born 12/3/1797) referred to in your last note is indeed my ancestor. His parents Edward Jacobs and Mary that you mention are proving a problem. I cannot find a marriage between these two. The only one that comes to light is a Edward Jacobs marrying a Mary in Southampton 30 December 1787. Not sure about this as there were a 'tribe' of Jacobs in Southampton at that time. If the eldest children were born about
1794 in Hampreston, then I would assume Edward and Mary married just before this date. Maybe Edward married away from home and brought his wife back to Hampreston.
If you come across any of these details I would be obliged if you would let me know.
Again many thanks for the info.
Regards
dud.
