Title: Private Duncan O’Neil
Post by: Cramond Brig on Thursday 22 October 09 14:33 BST (UK)
The final cutting I have relates to Private Duncan O’Neil, DCM, A & S H, died 10/08/1918, age 24, born Renton. He was the son of John O’Neil, an Iron Driller, and Margaret, O’Neil, of 14 Back Street, Renton
The cutting says that Private O’Neil and his six brothers all served – two were POWs, one of these two returning from USA.

I have found James sailing from Montreal on Donaldson Line “Letitia” arriving Glasgow on 11/10/1914 so he must be one of the two who became POWs.

Would anyone know who the other was?

Would anyone know which regiments the brothers joined?

John senior was ex-trainer of Renton Football Club and Joseph was vice-president  of the same club.

Hello,
Just stumbled upon your post this morning. By chance have you had any luck finding out any more info on the brothers? One of the brothers.. William O'Neil has been a part of my family research. The family is on the 1911 census and it reveals their father (John) was not listed on the census. William age 28 according to the census was still residing at home along with Duncan(17) and Hugh(13).
If you happen to have any info to share on William I would greatly appreciate it.
