Can anybody help with a photo of Headstone NE(E)247 in Elgin Cemetery the name is John French and family. He died 26.10.1929.
Thanks.

Probably. It is getting dark early up here so it will probably have to be over a weekend. I'll post when I get the photo.

Hi,
I have a number of relatives that are buried in Elgin Cemetery. Can you advise if there is a website that I can search to see if there is a headstone with reference number that one of these kind people could use to get a photo for me?
thanks

There's a Moray website http://www.mbgrg.org
and there looks to be some references on some Elgin Cemetery headstones:

Re reference to the Moray Burial Ground Research Group website (www.mbgrg.org) in the above post.
This site contains abstracted data from Elgin Cathedral Churchyard, NOT Elgin Cemetery.
The latter, contains some 5,000 stones, and work has not yet started on transcribing the monumental inscriptions as of Dec 2009

However the other site mentioned, http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp does have all the MI references from Elgin Cemetery collected in 1978/9 by a job creation team for Moray District Council. There are one or two inaccuracies, but it's an excellent finding aid.
-
Yes indeed. Thanks for adding that very pertinent comment.
I fully agree that the LIBINDX is a most valuable resource, and MBGRG works closely with Moray Council, and we link to that particular resource on our website.
The 1978/9 survey is now some 30 years old of course, and MBGRG is engaged in recording and updating all available MI information for Moray burial sites, some of which are not included in the LIBINDX, (including 'buried tombstones, many of which have never been recorded elsewhere), and publishing the results in 'as exactly recorded on the stone' detail.
Both sites are therefore worthy of the attention of the serious researcher ...

Indeed. I am sure there are lots of people all over the world looking forward to the day when all the new MBRG work is complete.

Anne,
I found another French today in Elgin. Is Ann French, wife of Alex Bain, a relative? She died in 1942. If so, I have a photo for you.

Hi,
Sorry for taking so long to reply, my grandfather had a daughter Anne French so if you could send the photo that would be great.

Thank you for the Elgin website - what a find! And find I did :). Dr James Coull born 1758, Doctor and surgeon in Royal Navy with his dob and wife's name.

Please can any kind person in the area take a photograph for me from Elgin Cemetery (West Section). The website www.mbgrg.org suggests that the grave exists, but I cannot locate any photo.
The grave is number 464, and will have the following names:
Mrs Duncan Stewart
Duncan Stewart
James Porter
Donald McDonald
Mary Porter
Thank you in advance.

I’ll be back in October. Just in case you have no success in the meantime.

Thank you. I did try to send an email via the form at www.mbgrg.org but it bounced back to me with an error.
Please does anyone know if that Morayshire site is still actively maintained?
