Title: Charles Fawcett lookup baptism record if possible
Post by: AussieGenealogy on Thursday 22 October 09 00:51 BST (UK)
Hello & thank you for reading this, this is my brick wall as some of you may recall well I'm still hunting this elusive man.
Came up with a baptism record (Familysearch)  for 1851 Willoughby for a Charles Fawcett parents George & Jane.
Does the record show fathers occupation by any chance?
These are the details of the image:-

 Batch no:- CO3424-4
date range - 1813- 1854
England VR
File no 1541981

Hi

He's not the one I found in 1851 above - he was a blacksmith in 1871 so I have amended that reply to avoid any confusion

What info do you have on him?  Is he on any census records as I have looked up to 1891 and can't see a Charles Fawcett b Lincs around 1850 who was a painter

What info do you have on him?

Yes, if we have to find something to fit some facts, we need to know the facts first. :)

Hi & thank you for tyring to help. The details I've got come from his death certificate that was filled in by the Registrar & not his wife who lived some 500km away from where he died. There is no mention of his wife & son that he left in Perth WA to travel to the goldfields of WA. So there is no way of knowing if the details are correct about being born in Yorkshire & a wife & 2 daughters:-
The details listed on this certificate
aged about 57
born Yorkshire
Occupation Painter
Father George
wife & 2 daughters somewhere in Yks

His fathers occupation Charles has listed as a commercial traveller on his marriage certificate, he states hes a bachelor & of course no actual age given just he was over 21yrs.

Hi

You haven't told us what date he died so we can't work out a birthyear from his age at death.  Without knowing his birthyear it's virtually impossible to find anything on him

You haven't told us his wife's name or where she was born or when and where they married

Presume he died in Australia??

You say he left his wife and son in Perth WA to travel to the goldfields of WA but death cert says
Quote
wife & 2 daughters somewhere in Yks

Does this mean you suspect he may have been a bigamist?

Have you checked passenger lists to find the date he emigrated to Australia as it is no use us trying to find him on a census if he was not in this country at that time

Your post gives the impression that he was born in Lincolnshire as you made no mention of the Yorkshire details from his death cert or the fact that he was not living in England at the time of his death.

It certainly seems to be a Yorkshire name http://www.nationaltrustnames.org.uk/Map.aspx?name=FAWCETT&year=1881&altyear=1998&country=GB&type=name

We don't have a clue yet for his year of birth or when he might have left the country.

There was a Charles FAWCETT aged 5 in 1861 as a "nurse child", aged 13 in 1871 "Pauper" and 19 in 1881 "Farm servt" in all cases born Bxxford.

His death certificate states he died 16 Oct 1905,there was a coroners report done, I have a newspaper article from 1905 that tells the story of his demise. He died at a place called Mount Morgans in the Goldfields in WA. It is now a barren desert area, all buildings bar 1 are gone - a 'ghost town"
His wife in Australia was a miss Mary Ann Jones born 4 Nov 1864 Whitehaven Cumberland -she died 1946 Perth WA - her family I've traced back to the 1700's. They married in Perth WA on the 22 March 1887. Their son was born 3 Nov 1887 Perth WA, the son died in 1949.

I've checked shipping records to no avail. Family story is that "he jumped ship" in Albany WA but when I don't know.

Bigamist? Yes he could have been as I have found another rellie who was.

I was hoping that someone may have access to view the register from Lincs. in the hope that it may provide a fathers occupation on the record. This was I would know  IF I have the right person, its just a hunch that if I can find the father with the correct occupation it may lead me to others researching the family & help solve my puzzle.
More than happy to email a pic of the death & marriage certificate to those that think they can help.
