Title: Arthur Hamilton
Post by: Titanium on Monday 19 October 09 22:21 BST (UK)
Can anyone tell me what the following address might be,
1 & 3 Lodging House, Cross york street, New york street, Leeds

On the 1881 census, arthur hamilton is in this building with lots of other people, what sort of place is it.
I beleive he may be the father of my great garndfather, as he was illegitimate but called himself Arthur Hamilton Johnson (johnson being his mothers name) mary alice johnson.

Hi

I think the actual address tells you what type of accommodation it is - a lodging house which would account for the large number of people living there

Hi Titanium,
Just slightly off track is he the Arthur Hamilton Johnson who married June 1892, Milton (Kent) 2a 1474 to either Lily Hall or Elizabeth Luckhurst.
Do you have his Marriage Cert.?
Have you found him on any Census?
Do you know his DOB or have Birth Cert?

If you need any extra help just ask.
Without his birth date or year it is hard to find anything on him.

Trish :)

He is possibly the father of Arthur Hamilton Johnson.
Mary Alice Johnson never married Arthurs, father, she married later to an Alfred Peter Vincent.
Cause Arthur was Illegitmate and with the second name of hamilton i wondered as to whether the father was an arthur hamilton, would that be possible.
I have found a coulpe that were seamen which would explain why they did not marry, but then i also found this one in this lodgings.  ;D

I hate to tell you this but it is unlikely you are ever going to solve this :(

From what you have Arthurs birth cert has no Father named. His marriage has Arthur Johnson (deceased)
You have never found Mary Ann Johnson with a husband Arthur have you?
The best idea is to just trace back Mary Anns line as in genealogy the Mothers line is the only one we can be truly sure of.

Thank you for your help, i dont think i will find him.
I know she was not married at the time of having him, and that she married later,
she opened a tobacco shop in Dover which we believe that the biological father set her up with as a way of supporting her son, although her son did not live with her.
Thank you anyway for helping me  :D
