I have very few details of this mans early life other than he was born in Newbridge and died aged approx 30 (?) in 1916. I know he moved to England prior to enlisting at Preston but I was wondering if any kind sole could possibly link him to a 1891 or 1901 census for the town?
Thank you

Unfortunately 1891 census for Ireland was destroyed long ago. The 1911 census for Ireland is now online (free)- is that any help? 1901 census will soon be added to the National Archives site (free).

Index to Irish civil registrations is also free online and would cover the period of William Patrick Tobin's birth. I did a search for 'william tobin' and only 3 in Co. Kildare but none close to c1886 birth but perhaps he was registered as Patick or even without a Christian name. Here's the link so you can try searching yourself-

Evening Mark,
I've just stumbled across your enquiry about William Patrick Tobin.
He was my great-uncle and married Florence Bateson and lived in preston until he rejoined the colours as a reservist in the First World war. He was killed on 10 Oct 1916.
I have been trying to find out waht happened to his widow and daughters for years and have quite a bit more information about him.
Feel free to contact me direct if you wish.
Vello.
