Title: Catherine BOOTHY of Ringstead
Post by: johnP-bedford on Friday 16 October 09 14:02 BST (UK)
Hello,    I wonder if someone can find me the baptism of Catherine Boothy, born around 1806 Ringstead, Northants according to 1851/61/71 censuses living in Knotting Green, Beds. She married William Shepherd Cox at Dean on 6 August 1827 and was buried at Knotting at age 75 in Dec 1880.

thanks John

Sorry there is no sign of Catherine's baptism in Ringstead C of E but there was an entry in Kingsthorpe that matched.

Alan, Thanks for the reply, Isn't Kingsthorpe quite a way from Ringstead?

Also I noticed on the IGI/Northamptonshire - Ringstead Particular Baptist; there are baptisms in 1833/35 of Boothy children of Joseph & Sarah.

Couid this Catherine of Kingsthorpe have married someone else & thus rule her out.  Secondly I noticed on 1851 census (& they are on 1841) a possible Catherine age 42 married to James Goldby of Harlestone. Could you check the marriage index please ?

Regards John

John,
No marriage for Catherine Booth(e)y anywhere on my index.
Found a match for James Goldby & Catherine :-

James   GOLDBY   of Harlestone, bachelor   Catherine   WALTON   otp, spinster   1831   23-May   Kingsthorpe C of E

Ringstead must be about 15 miles away from Kingsthorpe.
I have Kingsthorpe burials upto 1812, no Boothy entries from 1800-1812 either.
Northants Records Office have Ringstead Baptist registers from 1811, nothing before that date only C of E.

Hi John

Good to see you here again.  :)

As you already seem to know Ringstead Particular Baptist are available
on line for 1789-1837 and only the three you noted are listed in all 88 children's.

I do have burials for the Church if you ever find you need them.

Thanks for checking the marriage Alan;  anyway I think we can discount the Kingsthorpe girl now, as on NBI there is a burial of Catherine Boothy age 9 at Kingstorpe St John Baptist on 17 July 1815. Other young Boothey names were buried there 1815 & 1820, plus some Boothee names buried 1838-1850

Hello Sandy - good to hear from you - & I see you've now got 7,000 postings  :D  . If you could check Ringstad burials for possible parents of her - I'd be grateful, the NBI did not have any.

regards John

So I have.  ;D

I am afraid that there is no mention of the name in the images I
have of the graves still in the Churchyard.

Sorry.

Sorry John.

I did not read your message correctly.

I am not sure if this is of help.

William and Elizabeth Buthey were baptising
children in Ringstead in the late 1700's/1800's, not one
noted for Catherine though unless it was elsewhere, or not at all.

Hi Sandy,  Thanks for all that info on the Boothey family.

We are assuming that Thomas (who married Ann Slater) is another child of William & Elizabeth although there is no christening found for him, because on 1841 census the 65 year old Elizabeth could be his mother. That would make her born around 1776, which could be OK to marry William in 1794. Is there an Elizabeth Dams born 1776 in Gretton ?

Anyway still no wiser as to if they also had a daughter Catherine.

Might go to Beds Archives to check the 1827 Dean marriage to see if there's a family member down as a witness & just to prove it says she is a spinster from Ringstead.

Morning John.

I realise there is only one family in Ringstead baptising children.

If you are going to look at the marriage of Catherine it may help.

If no one does it sooner I will look at the marriges in Ringstead
for you and the others this side of the County.

Anyway to your question about Elizabeth only one possible.

From the Northants Baptism Indexes.

Hi Sandy,

The marriage says she's a spinster but 'of this parish' while William is of the parish of Knotting; both were of lawful age. Witnesses were Sophia Hales & Thomas Setchell, he appears on many other marriages so I expect he's the parish clerk.

I cannot link Sophia Hales with the Bootheys. There is a marriage of her at Shelton in 1821 to Joseph Smith & they baptised children in Yeldon 1822 - 27.

Hi John.

Sorry that you you did not find anything helpful with Catherine's
marriage details.

Maybe the Northants ones just might have clues.

Hi again John.

Not much luck with marriages this way either.

On William and Elizabeth's marriage at Gretton witnesses
looks like a parish clerk and another lady.

Ann's marriage says with consent of parents.
2 ladies were witnesses.

On Joseph's marriage a witness was his brother John and
? Humphrey.

On Thomas's marriage again no relations.

Sorry.

John I wonder if this is where it all links.  :)

John Boothey married Elizabeth Green in 1829 and he and
his wife moved to Nunn Mills (Hardingstone District)

Anyway if you look at the family groups through the censuses
there is a possible link.

In 1841 they are in Nunns Mills.
In 1851 also.
In 1861 more than likely same place.

John, husband of Elizabeth dies in 1870.

Therefore Elizabeth is boarding in 1871.
Also in 1881 Elizabeth is in Althorp St, Far Cotton,
boarding with another family.

We have already noted the census for 1841,1851
1861, for Thomas and Ann.

1871 they are still in Althorp St.

By the 1881 Census Thomas has died being buried in 1875.
Ann is living at 41 Althorp St with her family as it states Mother.

This is the possible link.

William and Catherine (Boothey) Cox have a son named James in 1846.

James Cox (son of Catherine) married Mary Ann Brice in the
Sep Qtr 1867 Northampton Reg District.

On the 1861 Mary Ann was a servant in St Giles, Northampton.

James is living in Althorp St in 1871 with 2 young children and lodging is
Elizabeth Boothey (Wid of John) possible Aunt to him.

By the 1881 James is in Rushden with the Family, hence why Elizabeth
is boarding in the same street with another family.

Elizabeth dies in1886.

I do not know if you agree or can see the connection.
