Thanks very much, Ricky and Wendy.
That's one theory proved.
Were there many other Chaloners around in Holt in 1851?

Hi Justin
The Timothy to whom you refer was my great, great grandfather.
I have some information about the family if you are interested.

Hello Rick,
I would be most interested in any information you have.
I am researching this family on behalf of a friend who is also a great-grandson of Timothy through the latter's son Edwin, b. 1865.

Ah...
that would be my brother Chris then. If you are the chap who has been helping him then please accept my thanks for your efforts.
Unfortunately though this probably means that you have more information than I do.

Hello Rick,
Ah indeed. I am the chap who works (and has the odd pint or two) with Chris up here in Heysham.
I have urged Chris to pop down to Holt and wander round the cemeteries; half the graves are probably your ancestors. However, he's too busy knocking his house to bits.

Hi Justin
I plan a visit to Holt, which is quite near where I live, and a wander round the churchyard. Do you have any tips on making the most of a visit in terms of picking up more information?

Hello Rick,
I would contact the vicar of the parish church and ask if it would be possible to see the original parish registers. The chances are that many of the gravestones will be quite weathered and virtually illegible or missing altogether. Furthermore, only the baptismal registers are available online. The marriage and death registers would go a long way to confirming the relationships.
Your family had such a long presence in the village I'm sure that the vicar would be interested in providing assistance.
You should also perhaps seek advice in the 'Common Room'.

Hi Justin
Thanks for that; really helpful.
I plan to visit Holt next week, and I'll let you and Chris know if I come across anything interesting.

Hi Rick
http://www.denbighshire.gov.uk/en-gb/DNAP-6ZQKTQ
is the Denbighshire Archives website; the original parish records and microfilms for Holt are held there.
However, Justin is right, a call to the parish may be useful to find out if they have a list and/or plan of gravestones in the churchyard.
Happy hunting!!
Kind regards
Gaie

Hello Kirsty,
I can't quite fit you into the Holt clan. Can you provide some birth years for your Chaloners?

Hi Rick
I have just been reading your posts with interest. I'm from Holt and am a keen family historian and also a member of St Chad's church Holt. My family Capper (but also Chaloners) have lived here since the 1600s. There were several different Chaloner families in the village and some also in Farndon and Isycoed and they weren't all related to each other which explains in some ways the difference in the spellings of the names. I hold copies of the BMD records for the parish up to 1830s and am happy to look for names for you.
As for the 1841 census, you're right it no longer exists having been lost I think in flood damage, along with half of the 1861 as well which is a real shame. The Local History Society has catalogued the gravestones in the churchyard but many were flattened in the 1870s I think because they had become dangerous. As a lot were sandstone they are now illegible.
