Hi, I am new to this site and am just wondering if anyone knows where I can obtain records of Old St Johns Graveyard where I think my grandfather Thomas McDermott is buried, although I cannot be sure. All I know is that he lived all his life in Barrhead. His son, my dad, Thomas McDermott jnr lived in Barrhead too and married a Patricia Stevenson also from Barrhead. However, I cannot find any records. I am an only child so its proving difficult to find out any information as both my mum and dad are now deceased. If anyone can shed some light on anything at all I would be very grateful.

Hi Monica
Thank you so much for pointing that out to me. I found in one of those posts that McDermott is a readable name on one of the gravestones and I am so excited as I think it may be my grt grandfather. I shall do so further digging etc and see what I can come up with. As I live in Australia its pretty hopeless trying to get info and I have no siblings etc in the UK now. Thanks again. Much appreciated. Carol

Hi Carol
Why don't you post on that link I gave you here on RC. 'MurphyZ' may be able to help locally with further information. Worth asking :)

Have you managed to find the McDermotts in the censuses etc? Maybe a generation back from grandfather Thomas as I can't easily see him in Barrhead in 1901.
