I am trying to trace the Crowe family of Leck, Macosquin, Coleraine. William John Crowe and Elizabeth King had 12 children, one of whom was Hugh King. Hugh then had a son named Hugh King who married Mary Pollock and they had 10 children, one of whom was my mother. On checking the 1911 census I have found 6 of the 12 children born to William James and Elizabeth and am looking for any others. The ones I have found to date are Hugh King, William James, John, George, Bessie and Saddie. The other address they lived at was Kilmaconnel, Macosquin, Coleraine.

Thank you soo very very much - you don't know how much this helps to get things going now! Will be in touch once I get my head around all the details!
-
Thank you once again - I had been looking Ringsend Presbyterian Church graveyard so now need to go to Killaig churchyard to find the relatives!
Now to confuse you a little! William John Crowe and Betty King had a child called Hugh King and he married a Mary Jane - I am looking for her maiden surname. I know according to the 1911 census that they had a boy called Hugh King born 1905. There were 2 other children to this union but it appears they died either as babies or later in infancy.
-
Mary Jane Tannahill (1 Sept.1871 Ballywilliam-23 Feb.1939), daughter of John Tannahill & Mary Smyth, m.(28 Jan.1903 Macosquin Presbyterian Church) Hugh King Crowe.
-
In case you are interested in Tannahill side of the house (and there are LOTS of them):
Alexander Tannahill.
Son, Alexander Tannahill (c1724-1796) m. Mary Douglas (c1738-1819), buried Agivey Burying-ground.
Their son, Frederick Tannahill (c1800-1879) m. Mary.
And their son John Tannahill (c1836-1895) m.(1869) Mary Smyth (c1849-1903)- parents of Mary Jane Tannahill m.Hugh King Crowe.
-
That is so brilliant - thank you ever so much!!
-
Now could I ask another favour?
I know William John Crowe and Elisabeth King were married in 1874 and it would be highly unlikely I could get a birth certificate for either - is it possible to find out at least both their fathers?
-
Elisabeth King was daughter of Hugh King, Craigmore and William John Crowe was son of James Crowe, Leck (one of the witnesses was Catherine King- bride's sister).
-
Thank you so much for all your help. I really am grateful. One question - if I was to look for the headstone of say William John Crowe and his father James would it be possibly in Killaig Presbyterian Church? Both Hugh King's are buried in Ringsend.
-
Can't remember if there's a Crowe headstone in Killaig but if not then Macosquin Church of Ireland might be the logical place to check next (many of the Presbyterian stones there seem to be at back and back right corner of church).

Hi
I am a dscendant of Sarah Pollock who married John Barber in 1876. Sarah was related in some way to Crowes of Kilmaconnell, as my G Grandmother often visted. I recall my great uncle visting with the Crowe family that live there now.
I was never sure where the link was, but I see in the 1911 census that there is a Samuel Pollock married to a Maggie who is considerably younger than him. A number of Crowes are also visting , although a certain Annie W is listed as a relative.
My hypotheses is that his wife Maggie is Margaret Crowe, b. 1979 of William John Crowe and Elizabeth King
Any comments?

Welcome to Rootschat.
Margaret Hunter Crowe (c1879-28 Oct.1923) m.(1899 Co.Derry) Samuel Pollock.
She was bapt. 8 Jan.1880 Killaig Presbyterian Church- named after father's sister Margaret Crowe who married James Hunter. Margaret buried Killaig Presbyterian Church (Crowe plot).
Parents- William John Crowe (c1840-13 Mar.1917), farmer, Leck, m.(1874 Co.Derry) Elizabeth “Betty” King (c1856-6 Jan.1929).

Aghadowey - just want to say thank you for all this information - you are brilliant!
-
IGI lists 1 child for John Barber and Sarah Pollock-
Eliza Ann Barbara? born 24 May 1877 Macosquin
(no Barber children listed in baptisms of Killaig, Crossgar, Macosquin Presbyterian)
-
John and Mary had two children. Elizabeth Anne Barber and Mary Barber.
I have Eliz' dob as 25/5/1876 but have not found record of Mary's birth yet.
Sarah died 7/7/1917 and is buried in Dungiven CoI graveyard but I have not been able to find her husband John's grave - his brother's will in 1922 mentions that he was last believed to be in Gular south australia, so he may have died there.
-
Can't remember if there's a Crowe headstone in Killaig but if not then Macosquin Church of Ireland might be the logical place to check next (many of the Presbyterian stones there seem to be at back and back right corner of church).
Have checked the Macosquin Church of Ireland within the Macosquin village but there is only 1 crowe headstone there who is definately not related to my family tree. Any other ideas of where I might get a family headstone?
-
Did you check Killaig churchyard?
-
OK so have checked Killeague Presbyterian Church. There are 2 Crowe Headstones and I am not sure if they are what I am looking for.
One is to a Thomas Crowe of Letterloan and the other to George. There is a James mentioned on this headstone but no wife or family after him and I am not sure if this is William John Crowe's father or not.
-
Did you get any dates off the headstone- if so I could check my files and maybe give you more details.

My Grandmother is listed as number 6 of William John Morrison and Betty King. We have her name as Ellen Jane Crowe Long. She married Robert John Long in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada (1911?) They had 3 children. Ellen Jane died July 18, 1917 and is buried in Winnipeg. I have visited the Crowe's in Kilmaconnell.

Mention has been made of William John Crowe and his wife Elizabeth King who were married in 1874. An interesting sidelight on the King family was that Elizabeth's brother, James King died childless in Marion County, Ohio in 1895 and a listing of his many heirs was published -- including "Bettie Crowe" of Leck. I have attached the legal notice to James King's findagrave entry:

Hugh King had quite a big family!
