Hi
I was wondering if anyone could help me as I have come to a total standstill with my Irish ancestors :(. The furthest back i can get is the Irish 1911 census.
The details I have found out so far is:
My great great Grandad, Thomas Corbett c1864 married Anne (Annie) Jane Ross c1864 in Ballybay County Monaghan in 1892. The stayed in Corrabofin, Ballybay and had several children, William Corbett, Thomas Corbett, Samuel Corbett, Lizzie Martha Corbett and Ellen Jane Corbett.
Two of the children William (my great grandad) and Thomas moved to Scotland and had a family. Which i have managed to trace.
I just can't seem to get any further info on my Irish ancestors.
If anyone could help or advise me that would be great as i am just new to this.
Thanks ;D

Hello and welcome to rootschat,
have you looked at records of Family Search Pilot
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start
The marriage is there - for 'Location', I put Monaghan and then you get a choice - Monaghan, Ireland. (I say this because I sometimes find this site quite difficult to use ;))
I entered Thomas Corbett and marriage and then cross checked it with Ann Jane Ross.
You could then order the certificate and get other details- fathers' names and addresses (hopefully) and witnesses.
It would be a start.

I'd start with the civil index which is available on familysearch at : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#c=1408347;p=2;t=searchable
the first option is the marriage of Thomas and Annie c 1892, possible match that I see is :
Name: Thomas Corbett
Registration district: Castleblayney
Record type: Marriage
quarter / year: Jan - Mar 1892
Volume: 1 / Page: 465
Name: Anne Jane Ross
(same index details)
A marriage cert can be ordered from the GRO (www.groireland.ie) with these details, which would show residences, fathers names occupations etc
another option would be to look for births of one or more of the children :
Name: Elizabeth M Corbett
Registration district: Castleblayney
Record type: Birth
quarter / year: Jul - Sep 1906
Volume: 1 / Page: 471
Full Civil registration began in1864 and there's Thomas Corbett birth listed on the index for that year... which could be him. Non-Catholic marriages were recorded in the civil index from 1845 - so once you know the father's names you might be able to locate earlier marriages.
sorry heywood .. I posted without realizing you had already answered..

Hi
I am new to this site and Thomas Corbett who came to Scotland was my granfather(Died May 1934) his wife Isabella Draffin my grandmother passed on on 20 Nov 1965.
I had been only able to trace back to Thomas Corbett and Anne Ross but was poss spelling the farm wrong as thought was Corbyfinn.
Should you need any further details of Thomas decendants let my know. Also if you have success tracing other family members. I will let you know if i can trace them as well.
Good luck

Hi Paul
Thanks for your reply :)
I have found the family on the Irish 1911 census:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Monaghan/Ballybay_Rural/Corrabofin/800209/
I also noticed on the census that Draffins and Ross's were their neighbours. I wondered if they were there Ann Ross mum and Isabella Draffins family?
I just wondered if you were the Paul i have been talking to on GenesReunited?
I am going to order the marriage cert for Thomas and Ann so that should hopefully tell me who there parents were. I will let you know when i have got it .
Thanks ;D
