Title: Why can't I find references to Nobbe?
Post by: cas52 on Tuesday 06 October 09 19:17 BST (UK)
I have been trying to find references to Nobbe (then changed to Noble?) in Lubeck and also in East Yorkshire (Hull) but it seems to deviate from the original so much that I am wondering if they were actually called Nobbe or it was someone's spelling/"soundslike" mistake.  I have poured over the census record and the birth certificates etc and I'm still not sure.  My Frederick (Friedrich) William (Wilhelm) and Mrs (nee Schultz) Maria Katherina Dorothea were definitely German/Prussian but where do I go next please any help, ideas much appreciated ???

I have found Friedrich Wilhelm Nobbe in the Niedersachsen Auswandererarchiv:

Name: Nobbe, Friedrich Wilhelm

Herkunftsort: Rinteln

Beruf/soziale Situation: Knopfmacher

Vermögen: ohne

Auswanderungsziel: Amerika

Entlassungsdatum: 13.9.1853

Quelle: StA M 16 II 14 Nr. 23 Bd. 2 S. 5; Wochenbl. 1853 S. 380

He was a button maker and left Germany on 13 Sep 1853. He planned to go to the US (but not all people who planned to go to the US made it). He was from Rinteln, which I believe is in Lower Saxony. If this is your guy your next stage would be the Rinteln parish records as he would have been born before state registration. Schultz is less easy, it is one of your Smith/Jones type surnames. I am sure someone will be along to help you though.

Hope this helps.

There are also quite a few Friedrich Wilhelm Nobbes on the IGI. Mostly in Westfalen.
