My husband has numerous surnames from the Norham/Ladykirk area and while researching I have found a lot of marriages between the same families from about 1730 - 1850 . Is there any way of researching these names from Parish records?

Hello brushbroomstick, I too have ARCHBOLD and SELBY connections in the time frame you cite and in the Norham area......may I please hear from you in order to trade specifics? Thank you. Pat

Hello again brushbroomstick, Here are the names you seek on my direct line: Isabel Archbold/Archibald b 1730 Tweedmouth and died 1788 also in Tweedmouth; she married William Paxton in 1756 - William was also from Tweedmouth. Isabel's Father was Robert Archbold/Archibald who married Elizabeth Selby in 1715. The Paxton family actually lived in the Longridge area and operated an inn at Velvet Hall. Their children were baptized in Norham and there was a connection with Ladykirk and Duns through the King family.. I have additional information on the descent as well as some information on collateral lines. Pat

Hello patrexjax: I see you have PAULIN from Berwickshire. We too are researching the PAULIN family, specifically trying to find Mary PAULIN who was born abt 1815. Her father might have been James PAULIN and mother Mary CURLE, but not proven and cannot find her connected to them. They were in Berwick Upon Tweed in Northumberland before moving to Chirnside, Berwickshire, Scotland.
Any help would be gratefully received.
-
Hello glenysjr, Thank you for your query regarding my PAULIN line. Sadly, I do not see any connection at this time; almost all of my Paulin line were from the area around Ladykirk, Berwickshire. If you find any connection of Paulins to that area, PLEASE feel free to contact me again! Sincerely, Pat

Hi
Thanks so much. I have not done any research for some time but only 30 mins ago came across something that belonged to John Smith my grt grandfather who was great friends with one of the paxtons - G P in Norham. I then go on line and receive your e-mail. I will log on to your website and have a look.
Will post you any relevant info.

Hi Violetta, Altho I do not have a website -- I think you are referring to the one that Gillie has posted.......please peruse it, too! My Paxtons remain unlinked to hers....BUT mine did operate the Velvet Hall Inn in Norham during the early 1800's. Prior to that, my Paxtons appear to have been in Tweedmouth. If there is any possible connection, PLEASE contact me! ;D Pat

Hi Pat Sorry for the error. I am a little out of date with my research- lack of time but Velvet hall is definitely a name I have read about. No doubt my ancestors were familiar with it. The paxtons could be linked . I have a map I purchased with some useful names on it - Norham and Berwick 1864 published by Alan Godfrey it has bee really useful to me. On it is listed Paxton John snr.surgeon, Paxton John junior surgeon-medical officer for Norham district, and public health officer. This gentleman was my grandfathers guardian . Is this any help? I do think paxton is a common name in the area. I will keep in touch. jane

Hi Violetta, Sorry but I do not think there are any doctors in my Paxton line. But do keep me in mind if you get any connection with Velvet Hall! ;D Pat

Hello Pat: Thank you for responding. Yes, we have lots of PAULIN family from Ladykirk. James PAULIN and his wife Mary CURLE - lived there after childbearing years. We are connected to many of the families from Ladykirk. It's Mary bn 1815 we are missing - and of course she is our direct line! We have her marriage, children, immigration to Australia, children there and her death, but simply cannot locate her birth.
Be happy to share what we have. What PAULIN line(s) do you have in Ladykirk?
Glenys

Hello Andy,
Good to hear from you. Hope you and the family are well. I posted having Jean McKenzie's OPR death. I found a death certificate for a Robert Denham in Norham, however a neighbour was the informant and a father's name isn't mentioned. Interestingly, Robert's occupation is a beadle. Don't know if there was a Church of Scotland/Presbyterian Church in Norham or if he hopped over the border to Scotland.

Hello Margaret,
Yes its a long time since we chatted. Yes family OK thanks. Has your email address changed? Will PM you.
Been ages since I done any research.
Have you managed to confirm Roberts parents as Robert and Margaret Lyal? Do you assume the death certificate you have is Roberts?
Regards
Andy
