Hello
I am after any MI information or leads for the following people please.
Guiseley Burials 1820-1829
John TOWNSEND
Died: 10 November 1824, Age 50, Esholt
Guisley Burials 1830-1839
Christiana RAWNSLEY
Died: 8 January 1837, Age 58, Esholt
From research the family lived and worked in the Yeadon, Esholt areas and mainly attended St Oswald's Church in Guiseley and on occasion All Saints Church, Otley.
Many thanks.

Well for the moment there is just the 2 of us!
I had a look at Guiseley parish records, copies of which some were black. (At local library)
I have made contact with holder of original records, to view when convenient with holder. (white gloves time)?
I have yet to view indexed copies of parish records (if one exists)
Regards Brian

Thank you for checking at the library and good luck with the original records and the white gloves. :)
I am also very interested to know if they were listed in the Church Record Transcripts at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/WRY/Guiseley/index.html for
Guiseley Burials 1820-1829
John TOWNSEND - Died: 10 November 1824, Age 50, Esholt
and the
Guisley Burials 1830-1839
Christiana RAWNSLEY - Died: 8 January 1837, Age 58, Esholt
Which cemetery would they would be buried in? and
would there be a headstone or monument inscription with more information?
:)
-
The burials would be in the church yard at Esholt village.
(I transcribe for Genuki) and I can't remember if the records for Esholt have been included, I also have distant family relations buried at Esholt.
The original marriage entries for Guiseley were located and photographed, copies of which were sent to you via e -mail.
Regards Brian
-
Thank you for emailing the photographed copies of the marriage entries.
Much appreciated :)
With regard to MI's (Monument Inscriptions)...
Which Church Yard would that be in Esholt village?
and
Where/How would I find out their location in the church yard?
and
Is there a headstone for them both?
and
If there is, what is the MI (monument inscription)?
Thanks again

As far as I know there is only the village church.
(Will have to have a look round with camera Monday/Tuesday)
I will report back on anything I find.

Hello again
Could you possibly tell me what the name of the church in Esholt is?
It would be really wonderful to hear if you find anything.
Good luck and thank you.
:)

The church is 'The Parish Church of St Paul'.
I had a good look around the small graveyard, sadly I couldn't find any?
Brass plate inside church mentioned George Rawnsley killed in 2nd world war.
(Will send pictures of graveyard later)

Hi Brian
Thank you for checking it out and for sending through the photos of the church.
What a shame you couldn't find anything. :(
Thanks again and I am very grateful for your help.

I did a little more reseach about Saint Pauls Church in Esholt and it seems it was built in 1839.
More info at this link http://www.guiseleyparish.org.uk/churches.htm
As John Townsend died in 1824 and Christiana Rawnsley died in 1837
I suppose they could not have been buried in the St Pauls Church cemetery in Esholt afterall.
Would they have been buried at St Oswald's in Guiseley instead
Help please?
Thank you.

Holly is this another of your Townsend family?
****
I am looking for the descendants of Edmund Townsend born about 1858 in Horsforth.
He married Mary Ann Kendall, and I believe he died in 1927 in Bramley.
He was the Brother of my great grandfather William Townsend. My grandparent lived in Bramley and my father was born there.
I am hoping that I can connect with the other members of the family still in the area.
(Article posted in local Leeds newspaper)

Hi Brian
Sorry, none of the names or dates appear to be part of my Townsend family, unfortunately....

Hi Calverley Lad,
Skimmed down some of your posts, and I am wondering when your log in name is Calverley Lad and you say in one post that you have a distant relation in Esholt. Are you by any chance researching the Calverley family who took their name from the Calverley village. :) And the Esholt connection would be around 14th century, when Isabelle de Calverley was elected as prioress of Esholt priory. Another Isabella de Calverley also prioress later in 14th century, desendents through isbellas brothers became nuns. I am following the Calverley line from John Le Scot and Larderina Gospatrick down to date (my Mum was a Calverley) the line I follow is through loads of Williams and Walters as in The Calverley Charters. At William b. 1415 & Agnes Tempest, I follow through their son John. Whereas their eldest son William gets interesting as that goes to the Calverley murder of the children where the father was pressed to death, and also from William b 1444 goes down to the current British Royal family (via Princess Di, so onto Princes William and Harry)
Are you by any chance following the same family? It seemed too much of a coinsidence for you to call yourself Calverley Lad and then mention Esholt that I just had to find out.
I know this probably isn't the proper link to ask, although ties with Esholt, maybe if we are following the same path, could you advise the best link to follow.
Kindest of regards (sorry if not the same line and I've wasted your time)

Hi cjw66
Sorry but I am not researching the Calverleys'.
I was born and brought up in Calverley as have numerous generations of my family.
If you look at my sig on bottom line you will see I have the family name Yewdall.
(My connection with Esholt is in the fact there is a Yewdall benefactor buried at the church, who lived in what is now the hotel on Hollings Hill)
My family name goes back (son-father-grandfather-etc) to 1490 at Kirkstall Abbey unbroken and documented.
Thanks for taking the interest.
Regards Brian
