Its a Sad day for my family today
Chain bar held its final service today & closed its doors.
Mum & Dad went to the closing service this afternoon.
My parents met in this church as children, grew up thru the youth Clubs, Cubs, Scouts, and Rangers (Dad) and the Guides (Mum).
My parents married there, and I was christened there, both my grandparents funerals were held there.
They have a large group of friends now that they still meet up with every month or so that they met as children in the church.
My Grandad played in the band as did my dad, and Myself.
Grandad taught players in the band. Some of my earliest memories revolve around the band practices on a Friday night, and Whit Sunday walks, I remember them even before I was old enough to take an interest in them - LOL I remember playing with my dolls under a table in the corner listening to Dad & Grandad play in the band as clearly now as if it had been yesterday.
Such a shame it has had to close, it will always remain a huge part of our family history - I wouldnt be here now if my parents hadnt both joined the same youth group as children!

What a sad day indeed, but this is the plight of many Churches today who are lacking funds for repairs to the buildings and the lack of churchgoers. It must hurt a great deal as your family were truly involved a great deal with church life and now it all stops for you all.
In times like this you can only count your blessings.
Very sorry Gaille

Hi Gaille
What a sad time for you all. It's hard enough when churches close and parishes are broken up or have the place of worship and community base moved or closed. But when family life has been so intertwined for so long with that of the church and community, I can only imagine what a big jolt it will be.
Hoping the next chapter will be fruitful and bring sunshine to heal the wounds, and the transition gentle - and that the old temes and treasures will be looked after! Not pretending it will be easy though!
Just along from where ny rellies were at Moston, too!
Take care! :) :) :)

That's sad. I think my aunt and uncle and cousins might have gone there too in the 1940s/50s, the name certainly rings a bell.

Lizzie, What were their names?
Mum & Dad were there around that time too as children/teenagers, I may even have photos, my dad took loads of the church groups.

Hi Gaille
I was at the final service too along with my brother and his wife, we met many friends from some 30 years ago at the buffet following the service, a sad day but in some respects a happy reunion too.
I attended through the late 1960's, cubs and scouts followed by senior scouts,my Dad was the organist for quite some years, hidden behind the large cross in the centre of the choir area, he also played for the choir, when there was one, then in the later years, he played the organ in at the front of the church near the font.
There has been a lot of history lost with the closure of the church, I'm trying to find out what has happened to the scout troop. Can you help with any information about what has become of them please?

Hi tea tree,
My dad was a member of the 2/289th.
Grandad was one of the leaders I think.
I had a load of paperwork relating to the n2/389th, I gave them to the scouting association when grandad died for their archive.
Mum, Dad and both sets of grandparents were part of the church in the1960s.
May I ask your surname? I'm guessing you and my parents will know each other lol.

My Dad, the Rev Bryan Imbush was minister at this church until 1976. My mum was Daphne, children 2 boys and 2 girls.
I have many fond memories of this church, Saturday nights helping out (although not much for a 6 year old) at whist card nights. We also came to the last ever service and met with friends we hadn't seen in ages.
We visited our old house 268 Moston Lane, unfortunately didn't go inside.
Could anyone tell me what happened to 3 girls who lived next door called the Frickers?
They must be mid 50s by now.
Also I would love to hear from anyone who knew my family.
Edit , living.
