Hallo, and welcome to Rootschat!
This looks like you g-grandparents' marriage on Free BMD http://freebmd.rootsweb.com
Marriages Sep 1914
GANNON Edward
SIDDELL Catherine
W. Derby 8b 1013
There are a number of possible births for children of the couple, including Edward J (1915) and John (1923) - you can find them by going to the Free BMD site and selecting "Births" - then enter Gannon as "Surname" and Siddell as "Spouse/mother surname"
Edward and Catherine's marriage cert will give you their ages and their fathers' names/occupations: you can order it online from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ (It costs £7.)

Hi,
Welcome to Rootschat.
:D
To start you off, this is the marriage:-
Name: Edward Gannon
Year of Registration: 1914
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Spouse's Surname: Siddell
District: West Derby
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8b
Page: 1013
You can do a free search for the births and marriages of their sons by going to www.freebmd.org.uk
I can't post the details on here because they may still be living but I think the maiden name you are unsure of is Hollingworth.
Once you have all the references, you can order certificates online at www.gro.gov.uk and they cost £7.00 each.
Do you know the names of Edward James parents. There is an Edward Gannon born about 1887 in Liverpool on both 1891 and 1901 census and the parents are recorded as James and Lucy. If you think this sounds right I will post the details.

Marriage of Edward GANNON and Catherine SIDDELL - 1914, West Derby Registrar Office
Where did you get the "CHIDDLOW" name possibility from?
The closest Birth for him I can see is this one on FreeBMD:
Birth: Edward GANNON - Sep Qtr 1889, Oldham
This person appears to be in the 1891 &1901 Census in Oldham.
No middle name James on this birth or the marriage to Catherine in 1914.
Where did the middle name come from in your records?
Cheers

Hi
The Edward GANNON who married Catherine SIDDELL in 1914, has a WW1 Army Pension record:
Attested for Service: 4 Jul 1917: Edward GANNON age 24 & 8 mths, married.
Address: 3 Cross St, Liverpool,
Occupation: Baker
Corps: A.S.C Batl. (Baker), Reg. Nr: 358962
4' 11" tall
Next Of Kin: Catherine GANNON (wife) of 3 Cross Street, Liverpool
Particulars of Marriage:
Catherine SIDDELL (spinster) married 26 Sep 1914, West Derby
Children: (boy EJ as per FreeBMD) born 25 March 1915
His Birth date was given at one point in the record as: as 4 Sep 1892.
He was discharged (quite honourably) as Medically unfit to continue in Miitary Service.
Noting on FreeBMD he and Catherine had a 2nd child's birth registered Mar Qtr 1917 before he attested in Jul 1917, yet only the child born 1915 is accounted for on the form at both attestation and discharge time. A further check of the BMD's shows the 2nd son appears to have died shortly after he was born.
The stated dob (1892) and age in 1917, is a couple of years out on the date you have for your Edward, though.
Cheers

I can see an Edward GANNON aged 20 living in West Derby in the 1911 census index - it might be worth investing in some credits to see the full details, and check whether he's a baker, for example. He is the only Edward approximately the right age in Lancashire apart from the one in Oldham.

Hi again,
These are taken from the 1891 and 1901 census. Edward's date of birth is recorded as 1887 so its a little bit out on what your originally posted (1890), however these seem to the only ones for Liverpool. If you order his marriage certificate it will confirm his father's name and if we can pin down the right birth reference, a birth certificate will confirm both parent's names and you will also have his mother's maiden name.
1891 census
15 Gildart? Gardens, Liverpool
James Gannon 24 head mar carter
Lucy Gannon 24 wife mar
Edward Gannon 4 son unm
Mary A Gannon 6 dau unm
Lucy Gannon 2 dau unm
Elizabeth Gannon 4m dau unm
Margaret Moran 22 lodger unm domestic
John Talbot 19 lodger unm general labourer
all born Liverpool, Lancashire
RG12/2906/15 p 26
1901 Census
13 Botanic Street, West Derby
James Gannon 36 head mar carter
Lucy Gannon 35 wife mar hawker
Mary A Gannon 16 unm
Edward Gannon 14 unm apprentice
Lucy Gannon 12 unm
Jane Gannon 9 unm
James Gannon 7 unm
Julia Gannon 3 unm
all born Liverpool, Lancashire
Class: RG13; Piece: 3488; Folio: 138; Page: 36
You will notice that baby Elizabeth doesn't appear on the 1901 census so it is highly likely that she died and sadly this seems to be reference for her death:
Jun 1891
Elizabeth Gannon aged 0
Liverpool 8b 58

A possible birth for Edward:-
Dec 1886
Edward Gannon
Liverpool 8b 62
Like Ambly, I think is odd that in all the records we've posted today the middle name of James hasn't once appeared ??? and if the census details are correct for your family Edward has a younger brother called James.
You've got loads to work with now.
Best of luck

Let us know how you get on ;D We like to see the ends tied up ;D
Hopefully the marriage certificate will name his father (and perhaps address' & witness)which will in turn ensure you do have the right birth/census data for him!
