Hi
Mary Bodle married George Bateman (dob 1829 and 1827 resp.) in 1864. She was born in Hailsham which is quite close to Bodle Green. Was this village named after the Bodles or did her surname come from the village. Also I have found out that she worked in Lewes as a cook in 1851 census and possibly worked in Brighton as a servant in 1841 census. Can you help any more?
many thanks.

According to VillageNet
'Bodle Street derives from the Bothel family who were landowners in the fourteenth century. In the sixteenth century it was recorded as Bodylstret and then Bodell Strete.'

I can't find any info on her after that. I can't find anything to say she died but she doesn't appear in 1841 census or any after that.

I checked what burials there are on FindMyPast and she doesn't appear there. However it does sound like she must have died. I can't find her on any census either despite looking at all Carolines in the Hailsham area!
