Seek BMD info concerning Edward Davies, b. c1845, and his father, Edward Davies, b. c1776, d. 1845-51. Both lived and
died in Chirk - Black Park area. Thank you.

Hi Earle
Unfortunately my records don't have a baptism for Edward, jnr. It might be that the family were not C of E.
There is a possible baptism for Edward, snr. but it is only a possible:
18th May 1777 (born 13th) Edwd Davies, s/o Robert and Anne. Abode - Chirk Green.
Is Edward, jnr. the one aged 7 on the 1851 census at Black Park? Mother is Jane, aged 40:
HO107/1993/806/12
If so, I'll check for a marriage for Jane and Edward.
You'll have to check on Freebmd for a possible birth registration for Edward circa 1845. The Registration District that covered Chirk at that time was Oswestry.

Gadget,
Thank you for your quick rsponse.
Yes, you have the correct Edward Davies families.
Edward jnr is the one aged 7 in the 1851 census you mentioned. His parents were Edward snr b. C1776 and
Jane b. c1811 in Chirk.
Jane & Edward's marriage c1830 was in Chirk.
Would appreciate Jane & Edwards marriage & death(burial)
dates and Edward jnr burial date. Believe Edward snr died between 1845 & 1851 in Chirk.
Thanks again.

Hi Earle
This is all very strange!
I don't see a marriage between an Edward Davies and a Jane. I don't see baptisms for John or Edward. I don't see a burial for an Edward Davies of Black Park/Halton around the time that he should have died of roughly the correct age.
I see that Edward and Jane are living in Black Park on the 1841 (next door to my Cash 4 x grt uncle, I think!) :
HO107/1399 Book 1 Folio 6 Page 4
Davies
Edward, 65, coal miner
Jane, 30
John, 10
all b. County
As you know, the 1841 census didn't show relationships so we don't know that Jane was the wife of Edward and there is a large age difference - approx. 35 years.
I have now found a baptism of a Jane Davies in Chirk on 28 Oct 1810 (born 18th). Her parents are given as Edward Davies and Elizabeth.
If the only evidence of Edward's father being an Edward is from his marriage cert and the 1841, then I have a theory which I don't think we can fully test:
I'm wondering if Edward (aged 65 on the 1841) was the father of Jane and the grandfather of Edward(b.c. 1845)
I have such instances in my line where the person's own name or the grandfather's name was given on marriage certificates.
At the moment, I can't think of any other explanation.
I've tried to find a death record for Edward senior but Chirk isn't on the North Wales BMD for that period and there are 22 deaths for an Edward Davies in the Oswestry registration district in the 1841-1851 period.
I'm thinking about this one :-\

Hi again
Having problems at the moment - my antivirus and RC are working in tandem to defeat my searching!
Further to my message ~
In 1851, Jane is described in the occupation column as 'Coal miner's daughter' - not 'coal miner's widow' . I think that this is interesting. Her status is widow but that is questionable given her occupational status.
Jane and Edward are still there in 1861:
Nant, Chirk
RG9/1880/95/6
Davies
Jane,50
Edward, son,15, collier
John, nephew,17,collier
James, nephew,7, scholar
All b. Chirk
Think on this!
I'll see if I can find anything on these nephews but not sure if my records go that far :-\

Gadget,
I agree with your rationale concerning the possibility that Edward, snr is Jane's father and grandfather of John and Edward, jnr. It begs the question though as to who was the father of John and Edward, jnr? Their birth/baptismal
records are so important if available.
I sure appreciate your continued help.

Hi Earle
If they were illegitimate t is only rarely that the father's name would be on either a birth cert or a baptismal record.
I can't find a C of E baptism for either Edward or John and Edward's birth cert (even if he was registered) is difficult to find - 9 birth registrations in the Oswestry RD for 1844-1846.
