I am trying to locate marriage details of Thomas albert McGrath born 1905 Belfast and Nellie Hazelhurst born 1907 probably England near Hoylake /Wirral. They both died in Australia, Thomas in '63 and nellie in '51. Their one child, a daughter (*) and may still be alive in Australia.
I have so far been unable to locate birth details for Nellie or marriage details in the UK.
Thomas was my granddads brother and was in the AIF in WW2. Photo is of Thomas & Nellie
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you

Thanks Kris for the fast reply. I reckon that they came back for the birth of the baby and that he went back out in advance of them after she was born. As I said I couldn't find any ref here for their marriage so reckon that they married out there. Same with Nellies birth unless Nellie is short for another name. I have to pick away at this one now.
Thanks again
Bob

Further to my first post on this, Thomas & Nellie lived in Melbourne. They subsequently assisted my Aunt & her husband when they went out on the £10 Pom scheme. Thomas never registered as an Australian (so I've been led to believe)

Not having much luck with Thomas.
Here is his entry from the nominal rolls

I do note Nellie's name is spelled Hazlehurst for daughters birth but I am not seeing a marriage in UK either. Getting late in Oz, so we will probably have to wait for morning to have someone look for a marriage and deaths in Vic.
Cheers Kris :)

Hi Tropicalj,
That is really very good of you. I kind of thought that he must have married in Australia, I con't find any detail over here in any of the records. She must have been married when she came back in Jul '34 although she came back under her maiden name. I have a Nell Hazelhurst coming back from S Africa in 1914 aged 5 and I cannot seem to find her birth details to fit in anywhere. I guess that a copy of the marriage cert is in order.
Thank you very much for your assistance. I know about Thomas as he is in my maternal line direct back to 1850.

I also wondered at the possibility that Hazelhurst may have been a maried name as she was 28 when she married in Australia.

Hi Kris, Thats fabulous stuff - another leaf, another branch. I had started to go back from 1907 which is the date that I had from somewhere but my eyes just started to close and off to bed I went. I have several links here who are looking into what appears to be the same family.
Thanks very much
Bob

These people are my grandparents. I read this to my Mum today (she's their only child) and she's 77 and living in Melbourne. She had 5 children and my Mum seems to remember my sister being in contact with someone a few years back regarding our family history.
-
Hi Michael
Thank you for this message. I was indeed in touch with your sister some years ago and she gave me some family details but then her email address went down and I couldn't get in touch again. Her married name was Helen Stevens or something like that. I was gutted that I couldn't get back in touch.
My uncle and his son are both named Thomas Albert after your granddad. They also carry the name McGrath.
Our great granddad is the same man which makes us 2nd cousins except that our great grandmas were different. James McGrath was my grandad and yours was his half brother.
If you are interested in further contact, please email me at (*)
Regards
Bob Cook

they might of had a son called Samuel McGrath 1 year old, as he was buried in Belfast with a John Charters and his wife and my great great grandmother Mary Irwin.
