Thanks Peter,

I had already seen the Joseph Stretch - Ann E Davenport wedding 1879 Tarporley.

Not convinced this is THE one - might just bite the bullet and order the cert anyway.

1881 Census wife is ADA b.1859 Tarporley
1901 Census wife is MARY b.1859 Tarporley

Maybe she really was called ANN E (who knows....)

Thanks for taking an interest.

Stretchie.

Still trying to sort out the Joseph Stretch and his wives.....

Found out this since last posting:

Joseph Samuel Stretch married Ann Edith Davenport 3/2/1879 at Tarporley Church.
Joseph was 22 in 1879 and a Widower, his address is CHESTER.  This makes me think that the 1881 Census which says ADA has been transcibed incorrectly and should read ANN EDITH.

Ann Edith Stretch died in 1886 - so Joseph re-married for the third time someone called MARY as stated on the 1901 Census she was the same age and from the same village as his second wife Ann. Hence the confusion over Ada Mary or Mary Ada!!  Ada should've been Ann Edith.

Would love to find out who Joseph Samuel Stretch's first wife was. I believe they had no children.

Tarporley and Chester connection.

Stretchie.

Hello,

Regarding the Stretch family, my ancestor, Elizabeth Ackerley (born 1861 Beeston) married Joseph Stretch in a Civil Marriage in Nantwich 1886-1890.

They had at least 2 children:
Mary Ellen, born 1887, Bunbury.
Blanche, born 1889,  Nantwich.

Have seen a number of Stretch names in the Bunbury registers.

Thanks to everyone giving me a helping hand with these 'Stretchie's'.

Joseph Samuel Stretch was born Oct 1857 in Appleton, Cheshire (Grappenhall) so when the 1861 census went live I couldnt wait to go and find him!

No such luck, only one Joseph Stretch listed aged 3 living with Grandparents Ziprovah & Joseph Stretch in Cheshire on the 1861..........

Problem is; did these two have a daughter named Martha?  how can I find out?

Ziprovah is on the IGI.

I'll keep on looking.

Stretchie.

Thanks Peter,

Still no sign of a Martha Stretch daughter though?  I suppose she could very well be in service by 1851 hence why she would not be on the census.

The only curious thing about the 1851 family is that my Joseph Samuel Stretch's first born Grandson was called DENNIS; like the one in the 1851.

So, Im still looking for confirmation about a Martha Stretch being the daughter of Joseph & Ziporah.

Where is Cuddington?  anywhere near Grappenhall, Appleton?

Thanks again for your help Peter.

Anyone with any info on Joseph & Zipporah Stretch - Cuddington

AM also a Stretch in Cheshire - I descend from a Richard Stretch in Frodsham ~ 1550 through Josiah Stretch of Daresbury (1682-1759) and Thomas Stretch of Aston (1785-1865). I have a fairly full tree and lots of Parish Registers.
Would like ot get in touch with any fellow Stretchs in the area.
Please make contact.

Just a quick note from a Stretch ex-pat now half a world away from his home county of Cheshire.  Just joined but active elsewhere.
My research is mostly online because I'm so far away, but I still have too much to assimilate and too little time to do it ...

As well as my own, Cheshire surnames I'm looking at include Anderson, Bennett/Bennet, Brammell, Dodd, Fowles, Wainwright in the east... Nantwich, Over to Northwich and on to Macclesfield, Whaley Bridge/Manchester etc.
Most other names on the other trunk of the tree are in Liverpool, Yorks, Lincs, Norfolk, etc.
