Post by: lolmac3 on Sunday 27 September 09 14:44 BST (UK)
Please someone put me out of my misery  :( my GGGrand Father was called John Matthews, he was born in Ditchling, Sussex in 1755.

Now I know I have seen a christening record on one of the geneology sites, I had even printed it out, but now I have lost the printout and have spent the last 4 hours trying to find it online again - can someone help please?

he is listed as Jno Matthews and his mother was Ann and where his father should be on the record it had XXX

I will be most grateful  ;D

many thanks

Lorraine

Hello to Lorraine who posted a question regarding her early relative John Matthews ,Christened on 16 th Nov 1755 . I am helping a friend who hasn't got a computer, to trace his family too , his name is David Matthews and his GGGranfather was John Matthews christened in Ditchling on the exact same date so you look very much as if you are related ! he has a great deal of information about his family as they were  mostly travelling showmen ( loads of pictures ! ) he is living in a place called Felpham , near Bognor Regis ,in West Sussex , England let me know if you would like me to continue with this line of enquiry, Thank you Vere Barlow

Hi Lorraine , thank you for your reply , how much information did you get from the message I sent . I'm not used to the way this site works yet and from what I can see ,as soon as you disconnect it all gets wiped .Maybe I'm wrong but I can certainly tell you that you have a living relative a couple of miles from me ,who has every name from Ann the travelling woman down to the present day ,well all the Matthews' anyway and there are two books published by one of the Matthews family . its called  '' Fairfield Folk a History of British Fairground and its People ''  by Frances Brown  ( nee Matthews ) ISBN Halsgrove 978-0-85704-156-2 these books are full of old photographs of the familes and the fabulous old road locomotives and showmans engines wagons etc., lots and lots of information and anectotes . David would be very happy to write to you and get a reply but I can maybe do it instantly by this method , it up to you how you would like to go on ,but Im very happy to help . Best Regards Vere p.s did you get my E-mail address , its .................... just in case my time is up in two weeks time and I fall off the edge of the world !
