Title: Bayliss Family
Post by: dudleylad on Sunday 27 September 09 10:03 BST (UK)
I have been researching my partners family tree for a while and have come across abit of a block in my research

Her great great great grandmothers maiden name was Isabella Bayliss born 1834 at All Saints Worcester and married William Shepard Salter

Her father was a George Bayliss born 1816 and married a woman named Henrietta.

I would like to know whether anyone is reseaching the same names and if they have got back further and also know Henrietta's maiden name

Hi Dudleylad,

Looking at the 1841 census, I have a feeling that Henrietta might be George's 2nd wife - there's a 10 year gap between the 2 last children.

Back in 1841, George seems to be married to a Hannah. Do you have access to the census? Isabella Bayless HO107/1209/2 59 26 All Saints, Worcestershire

 :)

Welcome to RootsChat Valerie,

You'd have to get hold of the marriage certificate to check their ages and parents' names. From there, hopefully, we should be able to identify her on the 1911 census.

I do see a possible candidate:
Birth registration Agnes Ann Baylis, Mar 1907 Birmingham 6d 17 (found on www.freebmd.org.uk)

If you look this girl up on the 1911 census (www.1911census.co.uk - details are pay per view unfortunately but the index is free to search), you might possibly discover that her parents were Alfred born ca. 1876 and Lilian Violet born ca. 1880 and that there was a sister Ada Lilian born ca. 1905.

The marriage cert would reveal if I'm on the right track.

 :)

I agree with Tati re the 2 marriages, although cannot find marriage to Henrietta.

Possible marriage;
George BAYLISS
Hannah MASON, 13 May 1834, Claines, Worcester

As George named first daughter Isabella, and first son  George, possible christening for him;

George BAYLISS
19 April 1813, St Helen, Worcester, Worcester, England
Parents, George and ISABELLA

All records I have posted extracted IGI at Familysearch

1841 Census
HO107/1209/2/All Saints
All Saints, Worcester

George BAYLISS, 25, hair dresser
Hannah, 25
George, 4
Thomas, 2
ISABELLA, 6
Harriet, 30###
All born in County

Looks like christening for George is corect as on same batch is;
### Hariet BAYLISS, 01 February 1809, St Helen, Worcester,
parents George and Isabella

Cheers,
Trish

Hi all,

I dont know if this might be of some in the beginnings of my research but I am searching for a George Ernest Bayliss who was born in 1915 in Worcestshire..

He married in 1946 to a woman whose surname was King in Birmingham.

I have hit a huge block and no records are showing up for him, I cant get further past him.

If anyones come across him or has him in their family trees I would be very grateful to find out more.

Thank you.

Hi Jemilla,
I tried looking for his Birth Reg on FreeBMD with no luck.
Is that where you tried?
Do you have his Fathers name from his Marriage Cert?

Ancestry has this though;
George Ernest BAYLISS, April/May/June Qtr 1915, Worcester, 6c 284
No Mothers maiden name ( if indeed he was legitimate) is shown.
Also no image is available of the Reg on Anc.
There does not seem to be any corresponding FreeBMD entry for this though.

Trish :)

Hi Valerie,

If you are back to around 1800 with your Redditch area COURTs I have a problem with them.

Cheers

Hello Kay and all....

I'm wondering if any of you have as relatives Alfred (Fred) Bayliss b. ~1860 in Worcester? I think his wife was Julia. My father was related to Julia somehow.

Fred's children were:
George b. ~1887
Nell b. ~1889 married Frank Scruby
Alfred b. ~1891
Annie (Nance) b. ~1893 married ? Jones
Maude b. ~1895 married Joseph Grant
