Title: Witness to the marriage of George Wright and Mary Aikin.

I am trying to pin down the birthplace of my ggg-grandfather Andrew Armstrong and would like to request a look-up for the witnesses to the marriage of George Wright and Mary Aiken at Crosscanonby parish church on 17th August 1799.   George was the witness to Andrew's marriage in 1801 and I am hoping that if Andrew was witness to George's marriage it would give me some link.  George was born in the parish of Crosscanonby and my ggg-grandfather stated this as his parish on his marriage .  A bit of a long shot I know, but I am up against that proverbial brick wall.  Any information on George Wright would be welcome.

Saying "Crosscanonby" at a marriage is just naming your place of residence at the time, it has nothing to do with birthplace.

Were they the couple having kids at Dalston until 1820?

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for replying.  Yes, this is the same Andrew Armstrong who returned to Dalston,
but he only married in Dalston, which was the parish of his wife, Isabella Sanderson.
They returned to the Crosscanonby parish immediately after their marriage and their first
son Charles was born in Bridekirk (1802)and the following two, John & William (1803/4)
in Papcastle, before they returned to Dalston around 1805.     I have searched most of
the parish registers for this side of Cumberland at the Carlisle Family History Centre.
Andrew died in 1829, aged 56, which makes his birthdate 1773.   I noted, from the
information you gave me  before regarding the Andrew Armstrong from Dean,  that there is
a gap between the birthdates of his daughters Ann (1771) and Jane (1774).   I know that
there are often gaps in parish records where baptisms etc. have not  been recorded for
various reasons.  The names of his other children, born in Dalston, are the same as those
of this Andrew's (Dean) children.    George Wright, was born in Dearham, which makes me explore
the idea that they were friends and there is a possibility Andrew may have witnessed
Georges marriage.  I am trying to look at this from different angles as I have tried all the obvious
ones without success.
