I am looking for ANY information on a Samuel Gainey who was born approx 1810 -1815. Census records suggest born in Bedwelty. Also I have found details of a Samuel Gainey in the Welsh Mariners index giving year of birth 1815 born in Newport. If anyone could provide any info on this ancestor I would be VERY grateful.
I also have his occuption listed (on his son's marriage certificate) as a Pilot, but this may be something to do with the Bristol Channel Pilots maybe???

Hi Tracey
Is this the same Samuel as your previous request? It helps to know, in order to prevent duplication of effort:

BRISTOL QUARTER SESSIONS :o :o :o
The Bristol Mercury (Bristol, England), Saturday, April 17, 1847
Joseph Gainey 36, captain of the schooner Swift trading between Bristol and Newport, and Samuel Gainey 36, one of the crewmen on board were charged with felonoiusly stealing 5 cwt of coal from the vessel , the property of J D Pountney. Several witnesses were called to character and both were aquitted.
Could be, the age you gave is in the range and you did mention Mariners and Bristol. ;D ;D ;D

Hi Arranroots
Yes this is the same Samuel Gainey I am trying to find. I have not worked on my family tree for some time and am now trying to re-start it up again. Perhaps this time I might get a bit further on this line of ancestors.
Many thanks,
Tracey

Many thanks for the infor - not sure whether there is a connection yet as the Samuel Gainey I am trying to trace the information is all a bit 'patchy' and I need something definate to link up information and then disregard some information which is proably red-herrings.
I have found a Samuel Gainey on the Welsh Mariners site which could be my Samuel Gainey, so don't know which one is correct ??
Samuel Gainey -Matster of the "Mary of Newport" in 1845. Samuel's DOB registered as 1815, place of birth Newport.
Any way thanks for your bit of information - it may prove very handy!
